Question Gas Mileage

Im looking for a 94-96 camaro v6 and gas mileage is an issue thats why im not getting a z28 but it would be nice to have one.WHat is the gas mileage on them and the z28 ? And could u give me some ideas on what i could do to it when i get one "some cheap upgrades" . Will i be able to beat anything on the road like the the rice burners?

Thanks in Advance!

With these cars, it all in how you drive, the v8's can get equal mileage to the v6 but the v6 uses regular 87. The 3.8 averages 24. the ls1 is defiity the most effiecient, it can get 25 pretty easily but you can burn a gallon real quick by just doing a few full thottle runs, it's a huge engine. People who drive them hard aveage around 18. I can't give you solid answers but I wouldn't hesitate getting a z-28 over a 3.4 because of gas mileage. the differnece will only save you like $10-$25 a month. If you get the Lt1 v8 you could blow away any rice burner out there for the most part.

Insurance is definatly an issue, I pay $230.00 a month and that just for a V6 . Besides, the 3.8 can pretty much blow away most *** crap, just a few simple bolt-ons will have you up near a V8, just don't tell your insurance company what you did to your car .

FYI my insurance is $58 per month. I get 24-25 Mpg consistantly. I just got the cat-back and haven't driven it long enough to see what kind of milage I get with it on.

346 cubic inches isn't huge in my opinion. Its a medium size smallblock. Now a Pat Musi 632ci Big block - that's huge.

Anyway, With the V6 I'v gotten 10 MPG and I've gotten 34 MPG. All how you drive.

The LS1 will easily net you 25+ MPG, on highway, you should get 30+ with the T56.

A guy I know is running large lift and duration on his LS1 (in excess of .600) with 3.73 gears and still manages well over 20+ miles per gallon. Thats with smelling raw fuel out the tailpipes.

The LS1 is more efficient, but the insurance is what will kill you. If you are worried about gas mileage but want serious power, get the LS1. Nothing matches its efficiency.

the Ls1 is one of the largest engines in production for cars today, it's a beast and it can suck down gas real quick but it is amazingly effcient when you want it to be, although it is a higher matainence engine, I just mean that it holds 5 quarts of oil rather than 4. other than that it is less matainece than most.

I definetly agree with not letting gas mileage make the decision between a Z28 and a 6. I barely get 300 miles to a tank if im lucky, thats like 20 mpg that is crap. For a 6 you should get at least 30. Thats what i thought before i had this car. My moms 6 cylinder grand prix get around 30 or more and that is about the same engine. That **** me off because all that extra gas my car burns i barely get any extra performance over her car. Point being, GET THE Z!

I was getting 200 miles to a tank with my 95 3.4L before somebody hit me and totalled it at a red light. Then again i was running 92 octane...and i was paying 136 dollars a month on insurance. Now i have a 94 drop top z28 and i am getting 275 per tank and i pay about 193 dollars every month.

Insurance on the 3.4 - $480/6 months
Gas mileage on the 3.4 - about 19 mpg w/ 3.08s

Insurance on the Z28 - $700/6 months
Gas mileage on the Z28 - 18-19 mpg w/ 3.23s

Having the Z is only costing me like $50 a month extra, and I'm MUCH happier with it. Go for the Z no question.

Maybe by today's standards and to youngsters its a big engine. 346 is a performance size but huge is a bit much. If a 346 is huge what is a stroker 427 LS1 small block???
