Question Exhaust Question

I have a 200 camaro V6. I am going to be putting a flowmaster on it within a month. I am wanting it to have a deep sound and not the rice sound. I also want it to have dual out. Should i go with the 80 series? What size pipe should i use coming out of the muffler, and will the size of the pipe make any difference in the sound or performance? I was also wondering if it would make any difference if I had them change the pipe that goes from the "cat" to the muffler? I really do not have much knowledge of cars. Any help at all would be great.

I just want to add that this is a GREAT forum. It really has a bunch of people with a lot of knowledge.

Thanks

I would recommend the 80 series. I just got it on mine, and so far I like it. Just don't get Magnaflows cause my friend has it on his 99 V6 and oh my god when he takes off sorry I don't know the other answers to your other questions, but if you can try hearing different ones from people you know if you can. luckliy my dad's friend owns a muffler shop and they had each exhaust set up so i could hear it. i got the z28 style square tips on mine and it looks real nice. i also did that free ram air mod and to me, i don't about other people, to me it kinda made sound a little better. which ever one you go with, good luck and keep it safe

i too say get the 80 series. and that pipe from the cat to the muffler is called the intermediate pipe. changing it will help your sound. some people have 3 inch some people have 2 3/4 inch. right now you are at 2 1/4 in. what i did was get an "i" pipe from a salvage yard from a 93 Z28. it went straight to the cat from the muffler. it is 2 3/4 in. i only paid $16.01 for the "i "pipe. its perfectly prebent and fits like a charm. the newer Z28s though wont come with the "S" so you will have to find an older one that includes the "s"
hopes this helps.

Can anyone give me more info on the "I" pipe? If I go from 2 1/4 to a 3" inlet will it make the sound deeper? Since i want the dual out then should i go with maybe dual 2 1/2" out pipes? I am thinking either 3" or 3 1/2" tips.

I'd personally not get the flowmaster muffler..
if u really wanted to stay with the flowmaster brand...then at least get the cat-back...i say if ur gonna do it, then do it once and do it right

check out the borla or dynomax or similar...good luck

I am under the impression that the cat-back systems comes with the "I" pipe, muffler, and dual tailpipes? What would be the advantage of getting that over just the muffler and having the muffler shop bent pipes for my "I" pipe and tailpipes? Like i said before i am really not knowledgeable when it comes to cars.

I have not got pricing for the muffler shop to do the work yet but i think the American Thunder cat-back system costs about $399?

I've heard the American Thunder system and I was very impressed with it.

Just don't be like every 18 year old kid in my area...bone stock Camaro with just a Flowmaster muffler thinking its all that.

Cat-back and having the exhaust shop make you the pipes...no difference as long as the shop makes sure they fit well. Going with a bigger I-pipe will get you a deeper sound and better top end but you will lose backpressure. You may or may not notice a decrease in acceleration in your low end, like from a red light.

It all depends what you plan on doing with your car. What are your future plans...?

I ordered the SLP Ram-Air Induction System and the Whisper Air Induction Lid with the K&N Filter from thunderracing.com..

I am not planning on racing or anything like that but i was wanting to get a good sound and do a little with the performance. After i get that stuff and the exhaust that will probably be all that I will do for performance.

What do you think?

that will realy help out your acceleration.
and for the tail end i would strongly recommend any aftermarket (flows or dynomax) and a wider i pipe. that will make a world of diff. now with your intake end.
