Is there an SES light? If so, a scan and the accompanying codes would be a good start.

I had the P0441 recently and if I remember correct it turned out to be the actual valve which was something like $15 at the dealrship and was an easy fix (but think they called it a purge switch or something like that).
Anyways it could be that or I have heard to people having problems with the actaul canister or lines.. probbaly best way to do it is pull of the valve and look to see if there is any build up in there if so that points to problems with the canister or lines; on the other hand if it is clean in there it most likely points to the valve itself being bad....
