Egr
Egr
I have the service engine soon light on and I was told from the mechanic that the code is for the EGR system. Is this most likely the EGR valve? Where is the valve located and if I replace it will the light go out or does it need to be cleared by a shop? The light was on a month ago and went off for about a week.
Re: Egr
The symptoms sound like a EGR valve going bad (either stuck open/closed). When my EGR went bad, it would trip the SES and then turn off/on.
The valve is on the driver's side.
After they replace it, the system should turn the SES off after a few miles, but I would just have them clear it anyways.

Re: Egr
Mine occasionally comes on and then goes back off shortly after. It won't come back until either a day, or a few weeks later and it does the same thing. It's never on for very long. I just hope I don't need to fix my EGR. Right now, I need to replace valve cover gaskets, intake gaskets, remove faulty water pump - install new one, and put in a new thermostat. 3 of which were tried by my dad and I, but we were forced to quit when my dad didn't know what to do. I'll have to try and pay my neighbor to do it.
Re: Egr
Where on the drivers side is the valve? I think the you used to be able to take them out and give it a shake and if you hear it rattle its good if not its shot. The car doesnt run any different
