Drop shipped? what does that mean?

I just ordered a part from Fbody Motorsports on monday, and they told me today that my order has been placed, and has been drop shipped. What does that mean?

if i'm thinking of the right thing, then what that means is the company you ordered it from is having it shipped from a distributor somewhere else straight to you. basically, the company you ordered it from is just a middle man, they dont actually keep inventory of that product.

Its been shipped onto a helicopter and will be dropped-from the sky-onto your lawn..

Just do a search "drop shipped" on google, that's what I normally do.

EDIT: I just did a search myself and while I couldn't find anything that said so directly, but they seem to back up what blackhawk96 said.

LOL...it means during shipment it is guaranteed to get dropped.

Just means they just leave it at your address.

Just as Blackhawk said. Drop shipping is tyipcally done that way so that Company A doesn't have to pay overhead (like inventory storage, people to ship products, paperwork, etc). Its perfectly fine...the only think I would suggest checking on is to make sure that they can obtain the product(s) you want. If you ordered online, Company A's site may not say if the distributor they're drop shipping from has it in backorder or not.
