disk brake conversion
disk brake conversion
ive searched for hours and hours. welll actually about 2 minutes but i couldnt find anything. if i was going to convert my rear drums to z-28 rear disk brakes, would it be a direct bolt on. i heard all i had to do was change the e-brake cable. but i heard that when people where talking about changing the whole rear axle so is a direct bolt on to my V6 axle?
im actually goin a step futher- Im swapping a complete rear from an Auotmatic 96 Z28. I believe all i need is to get a longer e-brake cable and a new porportioning valve- possibly new master cylinder.
I had a 97 rear axle swapped into my 95. I was told that for a direct bolt-in, make sure the year's are close. 1998 and above will not work in 97 and below, and vice versa.
Heck I got a rearend from a 96 Z28 in my car and brakes from a 1997 and I drive a 1995 3.4l. You don't need a porportioning valve or master cylinder for the swap.
Go here to billy grahams..
that is where I got my conversion kit. it came with disks, calipers, backing plate, brake lines, all needed bolts, and parking brake cables.

And do you guys get like 1000000% percent better braking power than with the drums in the rear. Ive done the 2 pisont LS1 upgrade in the front, but want to convert to rear discs also. How much was install?
Yes there is a difference. the brakes feel a lot more solid. I believe the whole setup from billy grhams costed me I think under 275 and I did all the work myself. its worth it for sure for the imporved braking and aperance. DIsks look sooo much better then drums especially if you have rims wiht open spokes.
