cold air kits? better gas mileage? or worse?

I have a 97 RS with the 3800 series ii....I just use it as my economy car to get good gas mileage....I just bought it and I havent really checked the mileage yet but so far Im just below 3/4 of a tank and have already driven 200 miles...I drive it to and from work about 50/50 highway and street...its completely stock...so my question is..will a cold air kit give me better gas mileage or cause me to get worse with the only benefit being better throttle response and a little more HP...I dont want to ruin a good thing...

also what about a flow master? same question...will it help with the mileage or make it worse? I just cant stand that chessy *** 1 exhaust pipe sticking down...I wanna put the SS tips on it to make it look a little better...what will it sound like?

I use to just do mods for more power and not care but thats what my IROC is for...Im just trying to get better mileage out of my 97

I dont know much about the V6's ....Im in the process of putting in a 383 in my IROC...

thanks

I know I can do a chip and all kinds of stuff to the V6 but its just not a street racer type engine.....once I get my super rammed 383 on the road...then the fun begins!

Just to clarify. did you mean you only used a little over 1/4 tank of gas and went 200 miles. or did you mean you have used a little over 3/4 tank of gas to go 200 miles. If it is the first one. then that is crazy lol. CAI might increase it by like 1-3mpg. maybe.. flowmaster no.. bad lol. I would go hooker or the like.

yes a cai will imrove mileage, but will also give you a heavier foot most likely, same with an exhaust.

Basically the more unrestrictive your intake and exhaust are the better mileage you will get, "considering your keeping the internals stock"
