cold air intake
being a new owner to camaros i have a few questions. i was wondering if the cold air intakes that you can buy off of ebay make any significant horsepower changes. i know that k&n is a good way to go but being only 17 i dont really want to spend 200 on that. i was just wondering if the second rate if thats what to call them intakes are worth the 50 that they ask. i dont want to waste my money but i also need more hp. those crappy imports at school are talkin crap and they need to be shown up.if my bro would let me use his 435 hp z that would do the trick but i want mine to not be so sluggish. thanks
Re: cold air intake
They don't add a lot.... K&N Fuel Injection Performance Kit II 5 - 10HP - $200
These cars will always be sluggish unless you have thousands of dollars......
If you did have thousands of dollars I guess you would buy a Z....
I hope you have a 5 speed.....

Re: cold air intake
The first $1,000 spent on my '96 3.8L:
$200 - SLP CAI
$300 - 2.75" I-pipe/ Flowmaster 80 exhaust
$400 - Bilstein shocks
$75 - 1 piece aluminum driveshaft
For $975, you have a car that performs and handles a lot better. After that, I added on 3.42 gears and 245/50/16 tires that helped even more though that does add to the total.
I've done the more expensive "big ticket" mods too but I'm just trying to show that it doesn't cost THAT much to liven it up a bit. But it does cost $$$ to mod...just the way it is. If you can't dedicate $200 to mod, don't try to "show up" anyone. Odds are, those "crappy imports" will take you out.
