Clutch just died, need advice.

Anything over 1/3 throttle and the car stutters and won't accelerate. I know nothing about replacing a clutch, is there anything special I need to know (resurfacing the flywheel is a good Idea I've heard)?

I want something that will take much more abuse than the stock clutch, any recommendations? So far I'm looking into a star clutch (anyone have the web address?) or a centerforce. I don't want to spend more than $400 so if you know of a good place to buy let me know.

try your best to get a centerforce dual friction on ebay....that's the best place to look if you don't want to spend more than $400. Other than that, good luck.

Does anyone have a part number for the centerforce clutch that will work in my 97 RS? I'm looking on e-bay but I'm not sure which one will fit.

Thanks.

ACA Performance, I know very little about replacing a clutch. I've found a Dual Friction clutch w/throwout bearing for about $350 shipped. Personally I want to go with the best quality setup even if it costs a bit more. If you think the SPEC clutch is a better unit then definately let me know. I do need to order one or the other pretty quick, I can drive around town but I wouldn't trust it going up a modest hill (darn thing starts to slip with any amount of throttle).

I just wanted to let you know that I have a Centerforce Dual Friction in both my v6 and my Z28, and I absolutely love them both! I replaced them out of necessity, like you are, but it was well worth the money. Just be careful to break it in once you get it installed... I know it's tempting to burn out at every light with a brand new clutch that has so much grab, but I just saw a guy with a Mustang (big mistake in the first place) spend all that money for the Centerforce, leave the shop and fry it at the first light... Needless to say, he wasn't very happy... But anyways, good luck with the install, and although I can't speak for everyone (and I don't have a SPEC) I really do love my Centerforce...

I will definately break the thing in whichever clutch I end up getting. I am seriously considering the SPEC clutch, it's not much more than the centerforce. The more I learn about each the better.
