catco confusion

Hey guys, haven't posted in a while. '97 3.8. I've determined I need a new cat (the rattle from exhaust when revving), and from reading here I think I want the Catco CTO 4111. There are 3 possibilities I've found to buy from.

One is summitracing.com for $104 (the price listed is $82 but when you check out is higher for some reason, and no it's not shipping).(http://store.summitracing.com/defaul...=egnsearch.asp)

One is from Ebay under camaro cats for $35.(http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=33629)

The third is from this site for $291.

The third one looks like a whole exhaust system, not sure.... I don't understand the differences in price, especially from ebay where the seller has a bunch of what looks like the same cat for $34.99. Also the ebay one says if you have o2 sensors you need an o2 "bung" (hehe) for another $5 or so. If anyone can help me I would really appreciate it.

I beleve you need the third one.
I have a 97 LT1 and it has two cats.
And the one that is bad I have to buy the whole pipe almost like yours pic 3.
I don't think you have enough room in the pipe to cut the old one out and put another one in.
plus I would think it would look like a hack job.

Chris.
The v6's were all single cat, not 2 in the y-pipe like the late LT1, and the LS1 cars.

Grab a cat from E-bay for under $50.

Re: catco confusion

I've searched everywhere, can't find out which size cat to get!! I ordered a Magnaflow catback system, which doesn't say what size cat outlet is needed. The one on ebay for $35 can give you a 2.25", 2.5" or 3". And on ebay it says it's that size for both the inlet and outlet. Which size do i need?

Re: catco confusion

The v6 Maganaflow system should be 2.5", but I would recommend getting the 3" LT1 system and a 3" cat.

agreed

the 3.8L y-pipe collector is 3" in diameter, thus a 3" cat is a direct bolt on, and then onto a 3" exhaust system = good,
