Question Catalytic Converter?

Does anyone know what purpoose the screen attached underneath the catalytic converter has

I believe its a dual purpose, as a heat sheild, and protector plate. Not neccesary if that's what you mean. It rattling?

Well if your looking for crap to take off to shave weight. They use a weight to hold down the cat. it might be slightly after the cat. I don't remember exactly. My V6 had a brick used to weigh it down. It wasn't exactly like a fire place brick but it was red. You could use something like a brace to hold it down instead of the brick.
