Re: Catalyc Converter

I have a 3.4 Engine. It will burn less gas. The guy at the shop said 1-2mpg better. Im guessing 1. The engine light will go on now and then because there is more airflow and less gas being used. No worries. Probably about 5-7HP increase with a completely stock engine and a aftermarket muffler. The sound is better to, more throaty and gurgly! I suggest Flowmaster 80 series muffler and straight pipe (no cat). The downside to getting rid of the cat is the smell. Dont stand behind the car to long it will kill ya!

If you have a 3.8. Most of this information was useless LOL.

Re: Catalyc Converter

Well to the 3.8 it would probably add 10HP with a aftermarket muffler. The exhaust would still smell bad. I dont know of the sound differences. It should save gas. I dont know if the engine light comes on or not, but not a big deal if it does.

The 3.4 Sound much better than the 3.8's IMO

Re: Catalyc Converter

you wont see 10hp increase... if it is clogged up all the way, i would recommend it. but if its fine, i doubt u will notice a diffrence.

Re: Catalyc Converter

oh, and you will have to put a o2 sim in your car as well. the 3.4 dont have the sim in the cat.

Re: Catalyc Converter

Agree to disagree. With a base 200HP car at the fly. Straight pipe and an aftermarket muffler will add 10HP, at the fly. Granted you wont feel anything but you will add power. The guy at the exhaust shop should increase power by 10%. I highly doubt that.

Re: Catalyc Converter

obd 1 3.4's i dont think "should" through a code because they have no rear o2 to monitor the condition of the cat. obd2 3.8's will throw a code if you delete the cat...its easy enough to either tune out or use sims on. You might see close to 10fwhp...might. But you can almost guarantee the 10hp if you actually delete the cat over temp adder section in the pcm which commands extra fuel to cool the cat. mpg gained eh negligible.
