car starting problems

i have a 95 3.4 liter and lately i have had a hard time getting the car started. i thought it might help if i changed the fuel filter and did that and for a while the problem seem to go away but it has gotten bad again. if i give it a lot of gas when starting it helps but this is not an old muscle car like my other so i should not have to do this just wondering if anyone has and idea of what i should do that is gonna save me the money of a diagnostic.

a fuel pressure test would be a logical place to start

Re: car starting problems

Run a pressure check. Low fuel pressure will definatly cause a hard start problem. Try this as an easy way to check. Before you start the car, turn the key to the run position (Don't crank it over), and let the fuel pump prime. Right after the pump relay shuts down, crank it over. If it starts right away, your gonna be replacing the fuel pump soon.

Whats happeneing during this exersise is, The pump is increasing pressure to the injectors so they can spray the correct ammount of fuel to the cylinders. It should normally do this immediatly after turning the key over, but if it's getting weak, it takes a while to pump up. Just a little tidbit of info for ya. Mike

Re: car starting problems

they could, but not likely. I'm gonna have to go with a problem with your pump. you need to get a reading with a pressure gauge.
