Ok, can someone tell me whats up with this. My friend who has a 3.4L camaro can powerbrake the hell out of his camaro, and he told me to try mine out, and I hadnt done it yet so I decided to give it a go. Well Im sittin there, and i am holding the brake, then i ease into the gas, and i finally end up at WOT and it just sits there......tires dont even attempt to turn over. Is this just because my car sucks and wont powerbrake, or is there some electronic conroler of this? I mean the car has more power than the 3.4! If my 2.2L Sonoma could powerbrake and smoke some tires, then I would think a Camaro could do it, even if it was the V6. Just wondering, I dont do this regularly, but I want to know why it doesnt do it. Thanks!

 

you might have your ASR on or traction control.

 

my abs system got in my way. pull the fuse on the abs and see what happens

 

I'v never heard of that one before.

From what I have heard, a lot of autos can't burn out. Probably because of gears and drivetrain loss. Some intake/exhaust mods should help you out a bit.

 

yeah I know some cars wont powerbrake, but I thought for sure that my car would do it. Maybe not. I just figured it was some electronic control, like that "low traction" light that comes on whenever you slide. Im not too worried about it though, cuz I can still beat him in a race

 

most autos cant peel out HAH damn if only you knew im veryclose to stock and even when my 150lb system is in my car i can still lay down the rubber and fishtail or full donuts

 

I just did a power brake the other day with with my 3.8 auto..... I had 315 nitto's on the rear too....very sticky! Of course it ended up being a one wheel peal but it still worked....not sure why yours didn't.

 

Your back brakes still work very well . In order to spin the rear tires your have to get the RPMs above the stall speed of the converter with is 2K RPMs on your car. I don't have to give 30% or 40% throttle to get my tire(s) to spin. First, hold the brake down. Second, go WOT (You should see your RPMs go steady @ 2000. Third, slowly let off the brake until you tire(s) start spinning. If this doesn't work you just goin to have to wait until your rear brakes wear out.

Your car should be able to do it, I don't see any reason why it wouldn't, except for ASR. (Acceleration slip regulation)

 

It will power brake. My 98 did but I didn't think it would at first. Hold the brake down JUST enough to keep the car from rolling forward then mash the other pedal.

Don't do it, since I have no tred left on my 315's, I have to buy new tires to drive around when my car goes back on insurance....well i'm out $250 bucks for rear tires

 

what is this "asr" ? I havent heard of it before, and i dont have a button for it. Fill me in on the details! thanks

 

It is acceleration slip regulation. If you don't have a button for it, then your car probably isn't equiped with it. Look under the hood and take a look at the TB linkage.

 

A Sonoma is a truck, a truck has a light rear end, that's probably why the 2.2L would powerbrake. However you have more weight in the rear of your Camaro, and probably not that much more power going to the rear wheel.

Could be a simple case of not having enough power.
You could inflate your rear tires to 44 PSI, that might help, water will help.

Can you spin them off the line? Spin em and then hit your brakes.
