Its like i turned off the car while rolling! no noises or anything... i pull over and i see some smoke come out from under my hood but very lil... i try starting and sounds like it normally does when i try to start it but just wont turn over... i have been told it could be the fuel pump or the timing chain??? just wondering if anyone has any ideas! thanks for any help

btw its a

Can you hear the fuel pump running when you first turn the key over right before you start it? (slight humming noise comming from the fueltank) If not, that's your problem. You mentioned smoke comming from underneath the hood. This is'nt a good thing because that could mean you've blown something, like a chain or a gasket, OR it could be something as trivial as blowby comming out of the crankcase. I would run with the fuel pump idea first, and if that does'nt work, Start on the engine internals.

Hope this helps, If not, It's late and I'm going to bed.

The same exact thing happened to me in highschool. My 1986 firebird just died. I changed the fuel filter and it ran perfectly after that. Before it died, it chugged a little, like you described. If i were you, id change the fuel filter before you take it to the shop. Even if that ends up not being the problem, its cheap. Just my two cents.
