Brakes / Rotors
Brakes / Rotors
I held on as long as I could, but now it's unignorable, I need new brakes and rotors. I went to a few auto parts stores and to my surprise, this is ganna cost me $350 just to do it MYSELF. $200 total for the rotors because the rear rotors arn't the same as they are on the front and they are discs... $65 total for the brake pads... and atleast another $100 because I have never, repeat never beenable to do this job without breaking the caliper's meaning I may aswell buy new ones now. I'm going to paint them red when this is over. However here's for my question. If I'm ganna spend $300 for some better brakes and rotors, I'm ganna have some fun and pride while doing it because I intended on doing this in the future anyway! are there any DEPENDABLE and LASTING performance or aftermarket Rotors and Brake Calipers I can install? I was thinking of this because If I found some lighter/stronger ones it would increase efficiency, and I was going to try this anyway. If I'm ganna spend big, it ain't ganna be on a stock item.
Any Suggestions?

You can get pads for ~$35 for all four brakes from Autozone. You can get rotors turned for <$20 each at a local shop. And how do you break a caliper?!? You should be able to complete the entire job for ~$100. $350 is way too much to spend on this sort of thing. You may want to reconsider your methods of working on your brakes if you are damaging your calipers in the process. And perhaps you should hold off on "spending big" until you are secure enough to service your car with oil in a timely fashion.

I did brakes back in January for the 96, and bought all four pads from AZ for ~$35. Not all Camaros have 4-wheel disc brakes, either.
Why do you think you need new rotors, anyway? Turning is basically "fixing" them if they are out of true by "shaving" them down to smooth them. This can only be done so much, though, as there is a minimum thickness for a rotor. But this is not typically necessary, so you may want to reconsider if replacing or turning the rotors is actually necessary.

My rotors are warped and scratched to h*ll... I'm pretty sure I need new ones, even if I don't there's still just that comfort behind them. No luck on my Autozone, I told them $35 bucks and the only thing I got was a chuckle from the clerk... "Nice try bud, $75." What Camaro's didn't come with 4 wheel disc's? I got a 98 V6 and Advanced Auto is charging me $200 to replace my rotors because I've got discs. (Pepboys wanted $400 so I feel kind of happy with Advanced... well...not really)
Thanks for the input

i am not real up on the F bods (G/f's car)...but on the 94, i went with PFC carbon metallic (autozone part number 6234). 41 bucks a set (front).
i bet yours are a different part number, but try that same brand. also i like to look up parts before going down there, so i know my choices. i would look up their site first so you know when they are missing something.....
i liked what i read about the C-M's and tried them. i like......
good luck.

I stand by my first post. Print out the following, and if that guy laughs at you again talk to the manager.
Go to AutoZone.com Then put in your car information. Go to the "Shopping" section and go to the brakes section. They have front pads for $9.99, and rear pads for $17.89. You can also buy new rotors there: front rotors are $18.99 each and rear rotors are $13.99 each. That runs a total of $93.84, before tax. That is pricing the cheapest options, but better to be cheap and safe than to hold out for the better and kill yourself while waiting. The carbon-metallic pads are $40.99 for the front and $50.99 for the rear. Even with that you are under $200. There is no reason for there to be a $350 price tag on your brake job. Just remember to grab a pint of brake fluid incase you need it.
