Best to to go to jump start Car

I just finished replacing a cracked head/gasket on my 98 camaro..
And today I tried to jump start it with 6 gauge Jumper cables
The engine turned over but it turn over a little fast and slowly...
I dont think there is gas in it either so it didnt turn on..
whats the best way to go about this?

Re: Best to to go to jump start Car

If the battery is that dead, it'd probably be easier just to get an actual charger, charge the battery as directed and do it that way. And it also depends on what you're jumping it WITH. If you're trying to jump start it with a beat up old 92 Subaru that's on it's last legs (not that I would have any experience with that....), it would drive you crazy.. (it took me all told, almost 3 hours to get a jump to take on my 93Z from that Subaru..between bad connections from the jumper cables, to the crappy charging system in the Suba, to the fact that it was completely dead in the Z..).

But a real charger will do a lot more for you, than a jump...at least in saving frustration.

Probably a good idea to make sure it has fuel.

Re: Best to to go to jump start Car

just get a $20 trickle charger/ battery tender and take the bettery out of the car and charge it in your apartment, then after charging it over night or whatever put it back in the car & start it up. plus a trickle charger is a good thing to have around and they are only like $20-$30. For example, say you sick for a few days & stay in bed & dont drive anywhere while your car sits out in the 20 degree weather, you go to start it monday morning to go to work and the battery is dead, well if you had a battery tender you could have plugged it in in your apartment and avoided that problem, this happened to me a few weeks ago, luckily someone was near by to help me start it but I would have been better off planning ahead.

ther you go, perfect solution.

Re: Best to to go to jump start Car

I meant when it had energy in the battery it started to turn over fast then it would turn over slowly due to loss of battery power you know>
But i mean as long as it turns on afterwords im pretty much set right?
