Exclamation bad problems, need help.

Ok guys, i've installed new 02 sensors, new plugs, new wires, new coils, new egr valve, 160 deg stat. ever since i've owned the car i've had a ses light. i blew up the engine one week after i bought it, and put a same year 3.4 into it, but it only had 60000 miles. now about a month after i had this new engine, it started smoking a lil bit at startup, kinda embarassing, but my moms gm v-6 does the same. I drove it to chicago, about a 7 hour drive, the light came on and off twice doing 85-90 on the highway, as soon as i got into the 15 mph traffic, the engine started surging and even died in the traffic! its an automatic. now i just changed the egr valve this weekend per suggestions from this website. light still comes on when i accelerate to 65 and slow to 50 or so. the problem of engine surging from 500-1000rpm has also increased over the last week or so and theres a rich smell in the exhaust. help!

I saw you reply in the post below before I saw this post, so I replied to it about the SES light...

hey, thanks, but i've tried that, they have as much luck as i do trying to get any codes out of her. we put the lil jumper/key into the computer port and it gives no codes at all, not even the normal 12. i just rolled over 99000 so could it be a clogged cat?

my clogged cat was fine at idle but once I got in to highter rpms my car lost lots of power.

As for hte jumper trick it doesn't work

I miss my 85 and being able to do it.

its a OBDI computer with an OBDII connectore, I was wondering if we could modify the wiring to do the jumper trick, at this point I would take it to a dealer to get the code scanned.

I took her to the mechanic and had the computer scanned, all three egr valves wern't working, he tested them with his lil computer thing and they all workd, so he suggested cleaning them out with some carb cleaner, and my crank sensor is also bad, which explains the bad rpm's along with the egr valve.
