Any hope for '94 camaro?

i have a '94 camaro that's been overheating lately. i went to go check the coolant levels and discovered that there was orange clay-like stuff that bubbled up over the fillhole (?) and is all inside.
i made an appt with a mechanic to have the system flushed. the mechanic looked it over and told me that the system was way too blocked up and he couldn't flush it. he said the only way to fix all this would be to replace basically the whole system including pipes and engine!
is there anything at all i can do besides replace everything? should i get a second opinion? or should i just scrap the car?
thanks in advance!

Get a flush kit from the parts store and do it yourself. If its that bad, it shouldnt be running at all.

second opinion.

If it's that bad; flush it yourself, drive it around till it blows(maybe you'll get 10,000 to 20,000 more mile out of it), then buy a different car.

How many miles on the car, what's the body and interior condition?

You'll likely have to do a lot of flushing yourself to get all the junk out. Free up a weekend day and grab some beers, its going to take more than a few hours to do all the flushing.

Just keep flushing (first with a chemical flush) until all that comes out is clear water.

- Flush, refill plus chemical.
- Drive around a bit
- Flush, refill with water
- repeat
- repeat until clear
