Airbox Lid Replacement

Airbox Lid Replacement
I have the SLP ramair kit on my V6, and have seen replacement air box lids for something like $160. Are these lids truly that much of an improvement? Or could I take a dremel tool and cut off those baffles inside the stock airlid? Any ideas?

I cut off the fins on the airbox (you don't need a dremel, just a pair of pliars and bend em off) and sanded it down. Worked just fine for me. The $160 lid might give you .5 more hp maybe, but that doesn't justify the price tag IMHO!

As I have expressed before - I prefer buying the lid instead of destroying the stock lid. Just in case you wanna re-sale. I have the Whisper lid on mine and my stock lid is in the garsge. My take

You can get the lid alot cheaper than 160 bucks. Check with thunderracing or tbyrne. They usually have the whisper lid for around $130.

Breaking off the fins on the inside of the stock airbox does very little to improve flow. The real benefit of the aftermarket lids over the stock lid is not the lack of fins inside, it's that the air silencer is removed when you change to an aftermarket lid. The air silencer is that big barbell-looking plastic piece between the lid and throttle body. Aftermarket lids attach to the throttle body using a straight-in rubber hose which eliminates the air silencer.
And I believe the aftermarket lids have a bigger outlet than the stock lid too.
