Question air silencer

dont know if this has been asked before, i did a search and couldnt find exactly what im looking for, but is there anyway to remove the air silencers yourself without paying all the money to get a new lid and whatever...cant you just get a new hose and just put that in its place or something like that or just plug them up?

Yeah you could do that. I'd use a hose like the type used on the back of dryers, I would imagine the hardware store sells it. The only hard part about doing this would be finding a place on the lid to drill a hole for the MAF sensor. On the whisper lid the hole is on the neck of the lid but the stock neck of the lid is kind of funky. Also, you can sand the fins on the bottom of the lid.

If you want to further modify it with almost no cost, you can search the air box raise mod.

Just putting washers under the airbox bolts that way the air box sits up higher, just make sure the lid still clears the hood after doing this.

i've done both mods to my car...check them out on my cardomain link. For removing the air silencer i didnt use dryer hose, i used PVC pipe instead...about 3 or 4 inch PVC i think it was, about 6 inches long. and i placed it inbetween the two rubber hoses and clamped it down. but anyways...these mods are great and relatively cheap to do. If you'd like a "kit" to raise your airbox i have one that would look better than sticking a bunch or washers under your airbox. Just let me know. BUT ANYWAYS, check out my cardomain site and you can see for yourself

no problem man. I used a Dremel to cut out the underside of the airbox plastic. One thing i DO need to get is a K&N filter, then i think then i'll call it good for that area...dont know what else i can do for airflow besides MAF sensor. If you need any more help or advice, let me know.

K&N adds no benefit other then being reusable, which is good if you have done the FRA though.

K & N breaths better than a stock filter. Thats one benefit.

Even that is argued. I like reusable filters, my point is don't get a K&N if your expecting hp from it.

Not hard to do, i just went to an auto parts store and bought an intake hose to hook the air box to the throttle body. The intake hose costed like 6 bux so it wasnt a bad deal.
