'97 Rs

Hey guys I had a question

I have a friend of a friend that told me about a '97 RS for sale. I don't know how much it is or if i'm wanting to buy it yet. I don't know very much about the 4th gen RS's and I was hoping you all could help me out with that. Basically I want to know everything I can about these camaros. And also if u think it would be a good idea for me to get an RS over a plain jane V6. Thanks.

I think that the engine is the same as the v6, except that the apperance is a lot nicer. they have ground effects, t-tops, and should have a factory dual outlet muffler. RS is just for the appearence I believe. How much is he asking? Is it high mileage?

I have a 97 RS and it doesnt have t-tops... although it has same engine, ground effects, and all the options, tilt cruise dual air bags.. six speakser system (dont think it is bose), and it didnt have a dual outlet muffler, but it is an rs thats what the VIN says

I believe alot of RS's are equiped with the y87 package.

the Y87 package if a v6 comes stock with dual outlet muffler, 3.42 gears and LSD, and a tighter seering ratio(same as v8) I forgot the code for lsd, but if you check the door or glove box, you can see what gears it has. code GU6 is for 3.42s, code GU4 is 3.08s. Those are the 2 gear options for autmatic v6s, all 5-speeds come with GU5, 3.23s

If it does not have the Y87 package then its really no differnet then a regular v6 except cosmetically.

I really wanted a Z28 so I was wanting to know if the V6's had at least decent performance. If it sucks i'll just hold out for a Z

A non Y87 RS has the same performance as a standard coupe.

Regular V6...RS...RS w/ Y87...same engine.

I had one guy tell me "Yeah my RS is pretty fast...a lot faster than a non-RS V6".

I asked what mods he had...none.

Is it a Y87?...no.

Alot of car lots around here screw people by claiming a base V6 is an RS thus having a higher book value. If I even see a base marked as an RS I make sure I call and ask about the car and then tell them it isn't an RS. 9 times out of 10 they never call it an RS again!

You have to be a pretty retarded person to belive somebody is telling you something like that...i mean can you not see the RS badges lol, thats a pretty crazy scam!
