There's a way to disable it if I remember correctly... albeit I forgot, my 97 and 01 have the same thing, it doesn't bother me at all although it spoils me as when I drive another car sometimes I forget to turn the headlights on at night... ...What're you trying to sneak up on someone for? Maybe you've got the right car for your personality...

Its another one of those GM safety features, DRLs, Daytime Running Lamps. I agree with the above poster, there may have been a method of disabling them discussed here in the past, it may be worthy of a search.

If you click the Ebrake up 1 click, then crank, it should disable the headlights.

Here you go bro its how I did mine, I have a 1997 Camaro M5 But what I did was disconnect C2 and I dont have any problems besides the fact that I cant open my hatch with the key in the ignition.

I shorted out my DRL module on accident. I was in the same situation, wanted to be able to cut the lights off if need be. I pulled out the module and was going to put a switch to toggle between automatic, and selectable. However, I was about to solder in my lead wires and I jumped two solder points on the board and it shorted out the lights, so they stayed manual from then on.
