How old are the plug wires? Have you checked the coil packs and ignition controller? Have you had it scanned?

Its in the base that the three coils attach to.

You might want to post this on the V6 Tech forum... they are more like to know what is "common" on the 3.8.

I'll move the post there for you.

I had to replace plug wires on my 96 3.8 V6 and my brother's 99 3.8 V6(both Camaros.....the 96 was a 5-speed manual...my bro's is a auto). It's common for the plug wires on them to go bad. Now, the car was not running well in all the gears(more noticeable under load). If your problem is specific to a certain gear, then it may be something more else(as it sounds with your troubleshooting).......but take into consideration that as the car shifts gears....it's going to shake the engine....this may cause a bad plug wire to move and such....

I'd replace all the plug wires if I were in your position...then move on from that point.
