I have all the EGR codes, so I am planning on just tearing it all out(no emissions here in MI). Has anyone done it, and if so, does it cause any problems besides throwing the code? The car has an OBD2 dataport...if that makes any difference.

 

you might want to tune the EGR codes out (pcmforless.com or texas speed & performance can do that).
You might want to figure out a way to block off the egr with no leaks b4 you do it.


On second thought, why dont you just get a new EGR valve? that might fix it

 

do like I did take the egr out of the exhaust and route it to the intake. So all the valve does is suck in the intake charge instead of the exhaust. So far My engine light has stayed off.

 

keeping the EGR functional would be a good idea. Less chance of detonation and lower CC temps.

 

i really dont understand statements like that, I try to trust and believe them though.

I see intake air averaging around 40F-80F (depends on climate) colder than reused exhaust air (600F+++).
So how is exhaust air (600F) gonna lower CC temps and reduce detonation More so than intake air???????? I just dont get it

It's the design of the EGR valve to cool CC temps which reduces the amount of Nox emissions. EGR return gasses might be a few hundred degrees, but you have to remember that CC temps are an awful lot more then that.

Yea, thats right the incoming air charge from the intake is always cooler that the exhaust charge, when the exhaust charge inters the intake it increases the air temp charge resulting in loss of horsepower. Also the main reason I did what I did, is because the exhaust charge has carbon and we all know what carbo does to a motor. So less intake temp and the less carbon in the intake equals a happy long living motor for me.

I don't think so, I have racing experience from cars to engines and the worst thing for a car is carbon, and since the carbon only comes from the exhaust, the egr is the worst thing in history. the reason for it was to past emissions test and even now our cars pass inspection with the egr off. Mine did.

 

you make me want to delete my EGR, but everyone says not to unless you have to!

no carbon
i would think better gas mileage
more HP
less chance of KR or detonation
1 lb less weight

cons:
worse emissions

 

I'm not going to fight an uphill battle with people claiming that an EGR is the "worst thing in history" yet offer zero correct or even helpful information.

Well my explanation is simple about egrs, I have a better running engine with out it so i still am going with my opion. HBHracing you have good opions and I respect your decisions about egrs, But for guys like me who want all they can get out of their engine with basicly free modding the egr is the first thing to go.

 

Maybe I should half-way block off the egr
I dont live in Alaska, I dont really need a hot intake system filled with carbon(destroying the gaskets)
