95 Camaro 3.4 vs 3.8
Hey guys. I'm new and all and looking for some help!
Recently my 1995 3.4 L Camaro's engine gave away on me. It turned out that exhaust was leaking into the cooling system. HUGE REPAIRS! My mechanic is telling me that it's gonna need an engine swap and I really wanna keep this car b/c I love it so much. So, I plan on doing it. They're talking about putting a Jasper Remanufactured 3.4 L engine in. The engine is going to cost about $2300. My question is, that the 3.8 L engine is only $200 more ($2500). Because of this cheap difference, I was wondering how much extra work would need to be done to get the 3.8 working properly in the car (money and labor wise). Will I need a new engine mount? New Harness? I'm so confused. Any help would be great!

You might as well drop in a V8 if you decided on the 3.8L swap. The cost between a V8 or 3.8L swap from your 3.4L would be little; maybe a few hundred more for a V8 then a 3.8L. But yeah it would be more than just $200 to swap in a 3.8L. I suggest you stick with a rebuilt 3.4L. Less to deal with.

its going to cost more than 200 dollars for the 3.8L. if my memory is correct, the 3.8's have differant motor mounts than the 3.4, so some custom work would have to be done. if your going to do custom work, get a V8. so if i remember right, you would need all the z-28 equipment and a new bellhousing for you tranny, and an LSD, then i though work. and really you would need the same amount of stuff to do a 3.8 swap. so if your gonna swap go with the 8.

i have done the 3.4 to 5.7 liter swap and its just as bad as doing a 3.4 to 3.8 swap... I believe the only thing easier about the 3.8 is the fact that you can keep your K member. Someone may correct me on that... But if you can find a good donor car for your swap its really quite easy... i did mine in about 12 days. plus a nother day to work out the bugs. The power differences aren't a whole lot better on the 3.8 so i would definitly go with the v8.
