94 LT1 into 98 V6 body

Ok so someone sideswiped me and rather than mess with all the body work...I found a black 99 RS with a blown engine and an auto in it.

I have a 94 383 LT1 with a T56 behind it. I did the swap before with the pedals and cutting the holes and all that...

A few questions...Is the process different for the 98-02 body styles? Can I interchange the parts from my 94 onto the 99 such as the cross member, front cradle, pedals and use the existing ABS?

Also, I have the whole car intact. and would just swap out the front cradles and do the exhaust...but what has to happen with the wiring and the computer? Can I just plug and play or do I have to use both computers?

The car is in good shape with a blown engine and all leather all power with chrome wheels...and only for $1000.

Someone hook a brotha up please...If there is a walkthrough that would be nice too...
James

AFAIK, the mechanical swap should be the same as pre 98. Not sure about the interface from the older computer to the dash.

Thanks Rob...just decoded the VIN and its actually a 99 not sure if that makes a difference...I know it gotta be possible...jut gotta know what to do and here there should be some answers...

Would swapping in the original dash from the 94 alleviate the problem of the dash issue?

I don't even know if there is a problem. You need advice from someone who has done the swap.

Let's move this to the V6 Tech forum, where "swaps" are covered in a sticky, and discussed on the forum.

Cmon people...need help...Mainly on the electronics side...Dash. I got the whole car...in theory I could swap out the dash and ALL wiring in the car...and not have to do a thing...but thats a whole hell of a lot...plus...dont have the body (back) to do it. But I dont want to.

Someone has to have done this before or the know how. Someone please...I got a 99v6 RS camaro with all options minus t-tops thats got a blown motor and minor paint blemishes for $750 with chrome wheels and the ground effects kit and leather...

But I need to know its gonna work out before I waste my money on another project car.

thanks
James

I have zero practical experience with this BUT...if I were in your shoes, I would not be in your shoes...get my drift? You need to use the wiring in its absolute entirety from your Z to make any sense out of this at all. Mechanically, the provisions SHOULD be there to bolt your K-member in, the trans cross-member, etc. Your looking at a different ABS set-up I THINK...some other small (maybe not so small) odds and ends too. Your best bet..IMHO is to transfer EVERYTHING over and sort through it very methodically...your biggest problem will be patience...but there is no reason why it CAN'T be done.

Not sure on the ABS, but as far as dash, yes the wiring... but look at the guides to convert the 93-96 dash to the newer dash. You can keep that dash if you want, just get a 97 specific gauge cluster.

Im not sure on the rest of dash wiring, I know the door wiring is the same. BUT to make a 97+ dash work in a 92-96, you need a 97 instrument cluster (because it was the newer style dash with the LT1 still, so it will communicate with your computer/sensors correctly. The airbags are supposed to be the same if I read right, or plug in the same at least. Im pretty sure all you need is the cluster to make the swap work in your case. You'll have to repin the connector, but there are guides to do that. Should be as simple as following one of the 97+ dash swap guides, except your not actually swapping dashes. Sorry if this is confusing you. Up at 4am with a sick 2 year old, so here we are.

The newer style HVAC controls all work in the older body, so all you really need to check into is the BCM controls, should work independantly.
