Post 93 V6 Project

Right now would probably be a good time for me to learn how to work on cars. Anyway, throughout school I drove a V6 camaro for many reasons, mostly its cheap to run and buy. It also has been through a lot, its been swung at with a bat a few times, had some girl hit a mailbox with it...etc...anyway, i'm getting it fixed now, its in the body shop. When it gets out, I want to make it faster, except one problem, it has 110,000 miles on the engine. Now stop me here if that just isn't a big deal and i'll forget all this. But I was thinking maybe I should find a lot more powerful engine of some sort and have a mechanic put it in for me, would that be a good idea or does anyone have any suggestions for me?

I thought about buying a newer Z28 or SS but thats just more money being spent, I am looking for cheap performance, but my car has so many miles on it. However, i've just fallen in love with my car because I love the color (dark maroon) with t-tops, and that bar behind the t-tops, the thing that seperates the t-tops from the hatchback, is black, not the same color of the car, and I love that, cause from the start of any windshield on my car, it is all black, its like a black bubble. Anyone else have a camaro like this and think its cooler?

Oh yeah, its also a A4

By the way, just so you know, the only reason I'm concerned about this is the mileage on it. I'd much rather just try and make it a little bit faster.

Depends on what you're happy with, 15 second 1/4 miles or high 13-14 second 1/4 miles. You can find used LT-1 Z28's pretty cheap, 5-8k depending on miles and condition. However, if you're contempt for 15 second 1/4 miles, a 3.4 can easily get their. Intake, exhaust, undrive pulleys ect. I have a 3.8, so I don't know the 3.4 aftermarket quite as well as others.

Yes, but the mileage is the thing, should I worry about 110k miles?

A full tune-up would definately help, assuming that one hasn't been done recently. That includes plugs, wires, coil packs, a new battery (assuming one is needed), tires, change of oil, tranny fluid, and rearend gear oil.

Making a LOT of power on a 3.4, there's really only one route to go, and that's nitrous oxide. You should be able to run a 75 shot with no further modifications, which ought to have you into the 14's.

Of course, you can go some other routes. James Montigny posts here occasionally still, he used to have an NRT-built 3.4, which (I think) threw down 195 horses at the rear wheels.

If you want torque and power that's there all the time, I, along with MustangEaster82, AllInTheRed, and a few other 3.4 owners on here can definately help you.

If you're going to rebuild your 3.4, spending all that money plus mod costs, maybe you should consider a Z28 a bit more closely.

yah dude, you migh as well get a Z engine, but if insurance is the problem then go with a 3.8, consider the race prep engine from supersixmotorsports.com, besides it's you should be looking at a real engine, none of that 3.4 silyness

Ok, i'm gonna go with the whole tune up because I only plan on keeping the car to 150,000 miles...I figure i'll go with cheap performance from there.

Stay away form that place, caused me headaches and jerked me around at least 4 seperate times. Its a ghetto place, in a ghetto part of Miami.

mileage? pfft... I have about 118k, and my times are in the sig. I ran a 15.9 tonight but it was a bad night to rae very hot and humid, I usually run about 2 tenths faster consistently.
