I believe unless you're throwing out some SERIOUS power, a 6 speed... if there IS one compatible with our cars... Will just be a huge waste of money. Even stock LT1's have trouble in 6th gear (No real accelleration, almost topped off) as if 5th was the end of the shift... Money spent better elsewere but thats just my oppinion...

Re: 6 Speed

Your correct. the V-6 would have a HELL of a time trying to lug in 6th. well, that is, unless you threw a set of say.........5.56's in the rearend. Plus you would need to find a bell housing to mate the t56 up to the engine.

for all that money you would be putting in to the tranny, you could do some really nice things to your car. you allready have a m5, 1 more useless gear is not worth the cash. do something useful.

Re: 6 Speed

You just need the aftermarket kit for a thirdgen, it has a plate that bolts to the T5 bellhousing.

you could do that too.....But your not gonna be able to use 6th for anything. The 6 cylinder does'nt produce the torque needed to turn a .50:1 gear ratio

Re: 6 Speed

Not too mention that the other first 5 gears aren't ideal for the V6 powerband either ....
Like they all say, waste of cash .. Simple as that.

It would still be too much for the V6. and if you got all 6 gears low enough to run properly then you would actually have better and LONGER accelleration in a 5 speed. You just threw an extra gear in and divided your power band into 6 short divisions when you could have 5 longer divisions which = more speed.

Re: 6 Speed

If you put the M6 in it, then go with 4.56 rear gears. 6th gear in the T56 with 4.56s has the about same torque multiplication the A4 does with 3.42s.

T56 6th gear
0.50*4.56= 2.28

4L60 4th gear
0.70*3.42= 2.39

In other words, at 60mph you're turning 1900rpm with both trannies in high gear, ~2400 at 80mph.

I *think* that the V6's A4 exhanges with the V8's, so you should be able to swap the T56 in. The good thing about T56s is that you have narrow ~2000rpm shift extensions, so you'll stay right in the meat of the powerband (i.e. if you shift at 5700, you'll only drop back to 4000 after the shift for gears 1-3, while the 3-4 and 4-5 shifts drop back to 4400rpm). With the 98+ V6s i'm not sure which T56 you should use though (LT1 or LS1, they use different BHs and input shaft length). Might be worth looking into if you have some spare cash to play with.

Re: 6 Speed

I've read elsewhere that V6 and V8 trannies do not match, autos or manuals.
