Not much if anything at all.

You've got bigger fish to fry when it comes to 3.4L weaknesses...

Best thing to help a 3.4L Camaro is a set of heads and the cam from a newer 3.4L, like a 99+ Grand Am GT. Get yourself to a junkyard.

There's at least 40hp to be had right there, and you ought to be able to get those parts pretty cheap from a U-Pull site.

without the grand am topend swap or forced induction you wont get fast

but if you just want faster

read the sig for her mods, she walked away from some kid in a stock 3.4

Don’t waste $$$ on your 3.4

Save those $$ that you about to spend on those mods then sell your 3.4 and purchase lt1. it will be the cheapest option to get fast.

Re: 3.4l suggestion on add ons

despite what people on here tell u the 3.4 is not a bad motor just a poor design. the intake manifold is very restrictive and the fuel system is barley adequate the injectors are only designed for 160hp. the 3.4 is a much more durable engine then the lt1. in the spring i plan on modding my 3.4 after i get my tax return ill let you guys know how i make out on parts and ideas for other.

If poor design doesn't make it a bad motor, then what does?

Also, what is your basis for claiming that the 3.4 is more durable than the LT1?

Re: 3.4l suggestion on add ons

poor design for hp. the lt1 is a great motor for its time and still is. for starters how about the oh so great opti spark. also water pumps consistently crap the bed on lt1 and they seem to only last on average of about 160,000 miles from what i have read not that some don’t last less or more were talking average. the v6 camaro last much longer then that. the 3.4 also has much less strain on the drive train from lack of power to be quit frank. also 3.4 engines typicly have higher milage. im leaving the 3.8 out well because i didn’t really look into a 3.8 but im sure there up there to.

what really gets me about people on this forum is that soon as some one says they want to add a few hp to there 3.4 or 3.8 all the lt1 guys have to come in and bash then for this and say sell and buy an lt1.

i have owned several cars buy the way 87 350 z28 not 305,85 corvette and a few other and i still have my 69 corvette and i like the camaro by car one of the best cars i ever had beside your usual maintenance the only part i ever had to replace is the altinator. its 125000 miles on it and run look like its new . http://www.cardomain.com/ride/2297498

Re: 3.4l suggestion on add ons

alrighty i guess i gotta throw my 2 cents into the hat... Most of you wont know who i am. I did a bit of a name change. If you have been on ANY other board than CamaroZ28.com you will know who i am. My sig might also give it away...

now look people:

#1) the 3.4 is no more durable than the LT1. They are about the same durability and longevity in terms of motor build. both motors come with a nodular iron crankshaft, both engines have 5.7" connecting rods. the 3.4 comes with forged steel while the lt1's are regular cast. the pistons in the 3.4 are cast aluminum, the lt1's pistons are that freakish hypereutectic kind which make them a little bit better.

So if you look at the comparisons all in all they are about the same. each has a weak spot and a strong spot so stop the - "3.4 is better than the LT1 is better than the 3.4" - cause in my book you are both wrong.

#2) im sorry for this in advance. I really have to apologise to everyone cause im about to be a total asshat, but here goes.

To the v8 people that are like "Sell your 6 and get an 8" - **** off. I've had it. I've said it time and again - if you don't like the engine then sell your car and get a v8, well to the v8 people, if you dont like the 3.4L v6 - then don't bother coming in here!

I'm just really getting sick and tired of hearing all this crap. its the reason i posted the article i did on this board and carried it to every v6 board around. its the reason i dont post here much anymore.

all the v6 guys if you wanna learn more or ask q's come to www.wcfb-forums.com (im on there with this name) or www.fullthrottlev6.com. i post in both places.

Re: 3.4l suggestion on add ons

All I said that if he wants fast car there is not easy and cheap way to do that with 3.4 period!
He will spend much LESS $$ on lt1 than on making his 3.4 a fast car. As for today you can get a nice lt1 for around 4 grand, and to make 3.4 "lt1 fast" you have to spend way more than that.
If you disagree please give me a real proof.
Thanks

Sebastian
ps. To answer your question
-k&N intake- maybe 5HP
-flowmaster exhaust -0 to 5HP (flowmaster sucks, if you want to go cheap go with cutout).
-Iridium spark plugs - 0HP
