3.4 water pump different from 2.8,3.1?

I was looking at a cloyes timing gear set but it is only for 2.8 and 3.1's and I was thinking is it because the timing chain cover (the water pump)?
Are the blocks different?
How much have the water pumps changed?
I have a 3.4 long block covered with 2.8 stuff (intake, water pump, oil pan) will it work with the gears?
I know the cams have changed from 3.1 to 3.4 but that shouldn't matter.

You said roller chain but you mean gears right?
Is that what you have, the so called 3.1-2.8 only timing gears in your 3.4?
