Check the O2 sensors. It sounds like something they would cause. Also, check the MAP, and the IAC. Carbon build-up is a bear on those. Is the stumble so bad that it affects drivability? Mine always did that during cold weather. Although it was nothing so bad that it would affect me starting it and taking right off. Just a thought.

Can you take some where to see what codes, or if any, it is flashing? Besides a expensive dealer?

No....... if he has a 93 he will have no problem getting the codes by himself for free. Starting in 94 the OBD system got an upgrade that only let a certian type of scanner read te codes. 95' models have OBD2 but some have an OBD1 connector. In 96' EVERY GM model was upgraded to OBD2 with the odd shaped interface.

If you have a 93. go get a paper clip out of your desk drawer, go out to the car and look underneath the dash, up by the corner where the console meets the dash. you will see a rectangular connector that has a bunch of holes in it. It will look like this

_____________
|. . . . . . A B|
|. . . . . . . . |
Picture Line here

Take said paper clip and insert it in to the a & B holes and then turn the ignition on. You will hear the fans kick on, and then look at the SES light. It will flash code 13, 3 times to let you know its working. For example. We will use an astricks for the flash. * Pause *** Pause * Pause ***Pause * Pause ***. From there it will give you any codes that are on the computer. Just keep track of how many blinks you see when you see them.

As for The newer cars. You can either go to a dealership to have the codes scanned for at least 80/Hr, go to Autozone and have them scan it for free OR, buy a OBD2 scanner for ~$160 and have it for life. The scanner will come with the instructions on how to do it. if you choose to go that route.

I think I'm done now. Mike
