3.4 to 3.8 swap?

I recently brought a 93 3.4L V6 Camaro with just over 150k miles. The V8 swap sounds too expensive and looks like it entails a lot of labor. I know in 96 the 3.8L became standard and pretty sure it would be a lot cheaper and easrier to swap in.If any of you have info or sites on this please help me out. thanks

Re: 3.4 to 3.8 swap?

for the cost involved, an lt1 wouldnt be that much more expensive at all, and would be a ton more fun in the end.

Re: 3.4 to 3.8 swap?

no, 3.4-3.8 swap would be fairly easy
you'd need
3.8 & belt related accy.
wireing harness & pcm(and cooling fan if 98+ is used)
3.8 motor mounts
the 3.8 auto tranny,or the 5 speeds bellhouse and clutch hydralics(if the 3.4 already has the 5 speed)
everything else is the same

you need lt1 springs,radiator,engine x-member,guages
and v8 parts fetch way more $$$ than v6 parts, especally if you want a 6 speed

Re: 3.4 to 3.8 swap?

before somebody else trys to bite at me, im just saying, ME, personally, I would NOT swap my 3.4 for a 3.8... id either put a 3.4 back in it and pull out of my garage, or do the lt1. To ME, the gain is not work the headache to do the 3.8.

Gonna have to agree with him on this...

The swaps are very very very similar, and entail about the same work. Actually I believe more things are interchangeable with lt1 and a 3.4L then a 3.8L and 3.4L

And from someone who has owned a 3.4, and a 3.8.... its not worth the work.

Re: 3.4 to 3.8 swap?

the 3.8 is a 90 degree v6, 3.4 is a 60 degree v6. LT1 (or anyother 350) is 90 degree V8. 3.8s and LT1s use the same bolt pattern on the tranny. therefore...you might as well put the bigger engine in if you're gonna swap to the 3.8 or 5.7. V8 front springs are not required. Some people actually like to run V6 springs in there V8 drag cars because of the spring rate...better for launching hard. the spring thing is true with 3rd gen cars anyways, i don't see why it'd be any different with a 4th gen.

not true,all series 1 & 2 3800 use the 60* belhouse pattern
and the old 3.8s with the 90* pattern use the buick-olds-pontiac-caddy patten, that is defferent than the chevy pattern
