3.1 Overheating

I have a 1993 Grand Prix w/ a 3.1 (I know it's not an F-body but it's the corperate GM 60* v6, and it was in the third gens for a while). I got it a few weeks ago a 127,xxx. Since then I put 200 miles on it. Yesterday it managed to overheat before I got off my block, I'm talking fast... like 3 minutes tops fast. It then decided to barf coolant all over the road due to a brocken radiator drain plug. I replaced the petcock (drain plug), flushed the system and refilled the radiator. I thought it was overheating because of the missing draing plug and that it was running w/o coolant. Now it's clear that wasn't the cause. Doesn't 3 minutes seem too fast to be a problem in the cooling system? COuld that be timing related? I believe there are still over problems in the system being that the electric fans didn't turn on even when the temp guage pegged red.

Any help appreciated, these are my only wheels until the right T/A comes along.

Having some air pockets in the system can cause that. Try to find a bleeder screw and see if you can release any air trapped in the system.

it seems to be okay now, took a rubber mallot to the thermostat and it's been running fine around 200*. I'm guessing it was a lil' corroded and had sediment keeping it from opening, after topping it off it's fine.

The car didn't overheat this time, but the lower radiator hose is leaking coolant all over. The hose replacement is simple enough, but I'm beginning to woner if the cooling system is having trouble. My guage holds a pretty constant 200*, but all the guages don't seem to accurate.

Are these two leaks connected? Any help appreciated.

Check out 60degreev6.com they are dedicated to the 60*v6.
But just as an FYI, it was actually a different 3.1 used in Fbody's. The one in the GP is a fwd motor, the one in the f-bod is a rwd motor.
