2000 Camaro mods

Yes i just bought a 2000 camaro with about 34k miles on it so its still brand new it has a 3.8 liter V-6 and i was wondering what kind of mods i caould do to it to make it super fast im talking like to beat the V-8 models or at least hang with them? I use to have a suped up mustang but i dont know alot about chevy's? Any help appreciated im looking for about 320 or more horsepower something that will make some noise? And it will be a daily driver so i dont want to know any mods that will hurt the vehicle if it's drove every day? (too much stress on the engine) e-mail me direct or post them on here

Re: 2000 Camaro mods

you are full of oxymorons, you want a 320 hp daily driver v6 camaro??? not really gonna happen, as basically, the more power you have, the more stress you put on your engine...

basically, by spending a lot of moeny on heads, cam, rr, intake exhaust, you're gonna get maybe 260hp.... so, to get 320 you NEED a power adder, be it turbo, supercharger or nitrous, but these will all severely increase wear to your engine...

basically, you have a nice car, a GREAT daily driver... but if you want 320 hp in a daily driver, perhaps you should have bought an LS1...

those are just my thoughts, as i say, you have a great car, but realistically, gettting 320hp and having a very very reliable daily driver is out of the question.

no offense, but you don't sound like you quite have a grasp on this whole automotive hobby thing..

1st of all, you'd need A LOT more than 320 hp to get into the 11's or 10's with daily driver weight... honestly, you're gonna be lucky to have a daily driver in the 13's... 14's isn't even easy (assuming you have m5)
seriously, you have a nice 15 second car... to get into the 12's, you'd need, i'd say at very least $5000 if not much more, but this would put a lot of stess on your engine...

if you want that kind of speed, go buy a speed bike, they're not too much, then you could have your daily driver camaro, and a 10 second track vehicle...

tell us more about this 'hopped-up' mustang you had...

Re: 2000 Camaro mods

and to answer your qu's...

intake + exhaust = 10-15 hp, max.... thats full exhaust including high flow cat...

you should think about gears if you want a 'faster' car... 3.73's or 3.42's

cam, rr, heads = ??? you'd have to search for these.... but they seem, to me, like too much work for the benefit

Re: 2000 Camaro mods

YOu can do it...

near impossible N/A without major work that woudl make your daily driver useless...

most 10-11 second any car is not that great on driveability..

your best bets are boost or nitrous, and alot of work.

Or jsut an heads/cam ls1 swap

Re: 2000 Camaro mods

It depends how much you spend on the heads and cam and other stuff...

Fully Ported Heads...
Cam...
Internals like Roller Rockers, Valve Springs, The goodies around the Cam...
Intake...
Full 3" Exhaust...
Stroker Kit (4.3L when it comes out) with a 0.1 bore...
Diamond Pistons...
Electric Water Pump...
High Amp Alternator...
Tuning...
Better Fuel Pump...
Underdrive Pulley for the Alternator...
3000 Stall
Turbo, Nitrous, or S/C is an option but you'll have to forge the internals and this will boost the price up by about $5K... maybe more...

- and thats just for the engine... This is all useless if you can't get the power to the ground...

LS1 Alluminum Driveshaft...
Complete Suspension upgrade, Coilover Springs, Better Shocks...
Sway Bars...
Better Engine Harness...
Polyurthane Transmission mount (it will vibrate but won't snap under power)
17" wheels all the way around with Radials I suppose? Maybe Good Streets...
3.42's or 3.73's (4.10's if you have an M5)
Beef up the tranny, shift kit, ect...

There could be more but thats all I can think of offhand...

Here's what you're looking at...

Without Poweradder - 250 - 280 RWHP, 290 - 310 Flywheel HP give or take... It should still be decently streetable too as long as you don't go to wild with the Cam. It'll be enough to take Stock or lightly modded LT1's, and keep with stock LS1's

With Poweradder - 300 - 340 RWHP, 330 - 360 Flywheel HP give or take... Should be streetable aswell if you use NOS as it's not active till you use it, but it will do hell on your engine... Turbo's also don't kick in till about 3K RPMS so that should also be pretty streetable as long as you're not always smashing the gas. Your engine reliability will probably be signifficantly lower aswell... With this, you should beable to smoke LT1's and stock / lightly modded LS1's...

It won't be cheap really... you're way better off getting a Z28 because for one the engine will have more potential say you wanted more HP down the road...

Re: 2000 Camaro mods

It all depends on what you are willing to live with. One of my best friends has an '02 3.8/M5 and he ran a 13.6 @ 98.9 on Tuesday night. His car is more about suspension and weight than all-out power.

Mods are as follows(i think this is complete): slp ramair, whisper lid, no filter at the track, Meziere electric wp, Pro 5.0 shifter, Centerforce DF clutch, no cat, 4:10s w Auburn pro, bmr cm adjustible torque arm, and race lca's, lakewood 50/50s, weld 15x8s w/BFG 235/60/15s and 15x3.5s up front w/VW 165R15 tires

Tune (c/o HPTuners w/tons of help from foff667): rev limiter upped to 6550, etc cutoff upped to 7000, spark threshold at 7000, shift light set to 5600, removed COT protection, added ~3* timing

weight reduction: hood pin conversion, !(A/C, airbags, fog lamps, washer fluid reservoir, front sway bar and brackets, padding underneath carpet, all but driver's seat, stereo/speakers, jack/spare, rear seat belts, rear hatch flap thinggy), lightweight drycell battery, 1qt coolant overflow, bmr kmember/a-arms, and about 1/8 tank of gas at the track.

Current raceweight - 3088lbs

He is the drag race moderator over at FullThrottleV6.com, name is LittleG.

Re: 2000 Camaro mods

You want 11's? Youll be the 2nd V6 to make it then. Shirl is the other one, and she has a 6lb powerdyne and a 100 shot and a tune and some other stuff.

other than that, you need a LOT of work to make a reliable daily driver. Realistically, you can have a mid to low 14 second daily driver V6, and still have it reliable.
