1998 Cai

i'm looking for a cold air intake for my 1998, but $340 for a K&N seems expensive. are there any others available for this year and engine, and what are they called? also, is there any place where the K&N CAI is less than $275?

I think that's pretty much about what you'll spend anywhere. Check ebay, sometimes you can find a pretty good deal there on a CAI.

Get a whisper lid and a K&N flter. Whisper lid is only like $120 if I remember correctly.

Re: 1998 Cai

can i expect a very similar performance gain? and is it easy to rig with a K&N filter? is it just a regular cone filter that comes with whisper lid? do any of the other kits offer dyno results?

as long as i'm spending the money i think i might just go K&N though. from the pictures it looks like removing that stock airbox really frees up a lot of room too.

the CAI shouldn't screw up any of the sensors should it?

Re: 1998 Cai

wtf. why would this not work on a '98, but only '99s+?

Re: 1998 Cai

Because you have an angled throttle body. And that is not a cold air intake or ram air intake. It's just a high flow system with the cone filter.

If you want the best gain get the "1998" whisper lid, the "Fast Toys" or "Whisper" ram air induction kit, and a k&n filter.

Re: 1998 Cai

i see. so for the setup you recommend, i would need this:

Fast Toys Ram-Air Induction Kit, 1998-2003 V6 & V8 F-body $174.95
Whisper Cold-Air Induction Lid, 1998 3.8L V6 F-body $99.95
K&N Air Filter, 1998-2002 LS1 & 3.8L V6 Camaro/Firebird $52.99

total...$327.89

is there any other lid that i could use? is there a difference between the FTRM and the SLP induction kit, besides the price?
