Question 1997 Camaro VIN...

I need a good VIN number for a 1997 Camaro that came with factory 3.42 gears in it. Some of you guys sent me some VIN numbers but when I had the GM guy check it out they were 3.08 gears or maybe a Firebird VIN. Only GM has access to this info. I really only need the last 8 digits but it needs to have come from the factory with 3.42 standard. I think the Y87 package in 1997 had these gears.

I am trying to get my PCM reprogrammed and I have a guy that will do it for $80 bucks but I need a VIN that is almost exactly like mine execpt with 3.42 rearend gears.

Until I get this done my speedo is off by around 10% and shift points are off because of the speedo being wrong.

Anyway, here is my car:

1997 Camaro
3800 V6 II
LSD w/3.42 (just recently added)
All power windows/locks
Power seat
Cruise
Day Time Running lights

Most of this stuff we all have, I just need a good VIN with factory 3.42 rear gears.

thanks in advance...

White 97 RS,
Thanks for the email...!!!!

This board rocks....!!!

I will check this VIN number out today with my GM guy.

Just for FYI for those who may not know the last 8 digits of your VIN is generated by an algorithm that only a Chevy service shop has access to the software that will decode these last 8 digits. I can give these last 8 digits to my guy at the Chevy place and he can tell me where the car was built, what options it has and more importantly for me, the rearend gear ratio. All from just that set of numbers. So those last numbers that usually says "build sequence" is a very important piece of your VIN number.

No question here just a little trivia for the day....!!
