Unless the struts are worn or some thing a 3rd gen V6 take turns like it is on rails.
Big difference between my V6 and Z28 is in the turns.
And at the pumps about, 4 or 5 mpg difference on the high way.
First thing I can think it might need is for you to rip the intake manifold apart and clean out 17 years of EGR soot.
Then block off the EGR to keep it form coming back.

Is the '84 a V6 also? I'm thinking that the '84 will probably be carb'd, while the '89 is multi-port injected. All things considered, I'd definitely take the '89 with the fuel injection.

With my 5.0L auto Z28 I get 12 to 15 mpg city and 24 to 26 high way.
My diesel suburban gets better milage. That is sad.
The V6 would get about 28 mpg high way, never drove it in the city.

I think it'd be fun to put a 4.3 in a third gen, just need these mounts and a v8 tranny
