Z28 vs Mustang Gt

Ok guys as you might remember a week or two ago i raced my friend Mustang gt i beat him once he beat me. We both only beat each other by a hood. Well we raced again today with my traction control off like yall recommended. Ok first race i decided i would ease out of the clutch so i wouldn't spin well i did and i finally let out and i went totally sideways into his lane. Luckily he got the jump on me or it could have been bad. So i just let off and we didnt count that one. Next one i was worried about goin sideways so we went at it again and i went really slow through first so of course he got me off the line then i just stomp on it 2nd through 3rd and by 2nd i was catchin up and by third i was at his bumper but he won. So i was like o-well my first times launchin my car without traction control and plus i was concerned about fishtailing into him. Well we get out on the main road and he's like you want some more? And im like ya. So we catch a light. I spin them bad through first again of course. Then second i caught up and passed him nailed third kept going putting sum car lengths on him and i think i hit 4th lol i forget but i let of at 110-115. And i put a good stretch on him. He turned off in his neighborhood and i called him up and was askin him if he wanted some more he just kinda laughed and said ya your car rapes mine.

So as you can see i REALLY REALLY need help launchin my car either i baby it too much or i just spin them too bad. What can i do?

Re: Z28 vs Mustang Gt

Ya i would like to get some but my tires are brand new. I just got the car like 2 months ago and it had new tires. And if i was to buy some my dad would know i was racing. My dad told me he knows im gonna drive the car hard and everything and im sure he knows im going to race it. But if i get tires he'll know im getting kinda serious about it and it'll worry him.
I don't know it might not worry him though cause i told him i was getting headers and he didnt care he thought it was cool infact the first day i got my car he asked me what i was gonna upgrade on it. I just don't think he would want me to waste money on new tires when there's already a set on there.
Anyways tell me if you think this would be a good launch. If i just dump the clutch from idle and at the same time give it about 1/4th throttle? WOuld this bog it or would it spin too much? Or should i just ride the clutch out? I tried this first race and it was really slow and when i let off i went sideways.

Re: Z28 vs Mustang Gt

Then I will restate the obvious again:
Your car stock: 285 HP (Flowmaster should have you at 290+)
His car stock: 215 HP

With that said you have a 70+ HP advantage...
With that much of an Power advantage, even with bad driving you can make up for a bad start.

Are you sure your car is running right?

Re: Z28 vs Mustang Gt

I don't know but wouldn't spinning really bad through first slow you down enough to not be able to catch him? Most of the time i spin really bad then i hit second and gain a little and then hit third i would probably pass him but where we were running out of room so i couldn't get out of third. Except once we got out on the main road. I spun them on the main road but not as for long that's why i passed him in second. I let one of my friend's with a z28 ride with me and he said it feals strong i don't think anything's wrong with but now you got me worried

It's probably just my bad driving skill only been driving a stick for about a month now it's my first car and these are my first launches without traction control i just got to practice.

Re: Z28 vs Mustang Gt

if your getting that much spin on your 95z and all you have is a flowmaster exhaust than you just need to keep praticing your launch, learn your clutch see how much gas you can give it before your tires break traction,i wouldnt do a clutch drop cause you wont get the best launch your car is capable of.anothere tip is do quick spin through first gear, get some heat on them tires that will help them hook up a lot better.good luck on learning your launch you should be able to launch that car hard with little wheelspin.

I've already raced him from a roll. Of course i smoked him, i asked him to go from a roll not to long ago and he said no. He knows my take offs suck.

A 50HP advantage is a safe guesstimate. Going sideways off the start with a good launch on the GT's part, but yet you still managed to catch up to him and pass him before you went into 3rd (around 65-70mph in an M6???)... yeah, I'd definately say your car is running right and your shifting skills don't seem to be too bad either, analyzing based on just a story

Agreed with what the others said, a set of 3.73s (you could go 4.10s with your M6) and Nittos, and watch the owner of the GT cringe when that LT1 hooks

i'd go to the dragrace section of this board and ask ppl for their favorite techniques on launching on street tires.
