Think that z06 would have pounded that thing harder w/ those mods....Put the right driver behind that viper and thing would have been different

Ants, you have absolutely no clue about Carlsbad, or that race. First of all, it was a Gen1 Viper, meaning that they run mid/low 12s at 115-117 in good air. Given the bad air, the guy didn't do too badly in the mph department. His 60' wasn't bad either given street tires and the crappy prep. Just look at the Z06s 60' (with M/T slicks) for an indication of the horrible launch conditions.\

As for the Z06... in the same conditions I saw a heads/cam/boltons SS run 117 mph and a heads/cam/boltons Z06 run 120 mph. So a headers/cold air Z06 running 116 is about as good as it gets for those conditions.

Re: Z06 vs. Viper

Well maybe if you explained all that I would have, didnt look like a gen 1 viper to me ...That z06 still should have crushed that Viper

The Z06 DID crush that Viper... 12.36 to 13.19. If you don't agree, explain what world you're living in where over a full second win in the quarter isn't a crushing.

As far as explaining that the Viper was a Gen 1... here's from the original post:
Carlsbad Raceway. Typical DA is ~2000+ feet

Z06 has long tubes, cold air, M/T DOT slicks, experienced driver
Viper is a Gen 1, stock, first time at the track

For your insinuation that the Z06 and Viper both should have run faster mph... don't you yet know the effects of DA on horsepower? The Z06 ran 116.95 in the 1/4 mile. Go to the following site and enter the following information:

http://www.modulardepot.com/density.php

80 degrees
50% humidity
400 feet track altitude
29.50" pressure
116.95 trap speed

then check out the corrected speed

Re: Z06 vs. Viper

Hey nuke - could that viper have possibly been one of the early models (400-415hp) and not a 450hp model. Just wondering because the earlier models (before 450hp) usually trapped 110-112mph at sea level. This might explain why with that DA, the viper was trapping under 106mph. Just throwing that out...

Re: Z06 vs. Viper

That's certainly possible. I only know it was a Gen 1 Viper.

A few weeks ago a brand new Viper ran a heads/cam Z06 several times, with the Viper winning nearly every time due to better traction with those monster 345's (?) out back compared to the 295s (stock tires) on the Vette. The Viper was trapping at ~115 and the Vette ~120.

Re: Z06 vs. Viper

Nice kills by the Z06 Nuke.

I always liked running out @ Carlsbad when I was there, but it's been about 4 years, lol.

What I hated was driving up from San Diego, and finding out it was closed a couple times, or it closing earlier than anticipated.

Re: Z06 vs. Viper

Unfortunately, Carlsbad will be closing permanently in September. Either more houses or businesses. The only strips left in the San Diego area will then all be 1/8th mile runs; Qualcomm stadium parking lot and Barona Dragstrip.
