wow 4.6 cougars are slow

Well I was driving down the 4 lane with the cruse set at 70 and i come up on a mercury cougar. As I pass it he puts it down to the floor no horn nothing. There were cars ahead so I did not do anything. About 2 miles down the road we get around all the traffic and I go to pass him again and he doesn't do anything so I continue to pass him but when i have a fender on him he floors it. By the time I down shift to 3ed he has 2 cars on me. He instantly stops pulling on me when I floor it, by mid 3ed we are even, by the end of 3ed i had 3 cars on him. I shift in to 4th let off at 95 with me ahead by 4 cars. Then he precedes to do a fly by at what he said was 120. I fallow him to school and park across from him and when I get out I say good run. he asked what I had in it and I replied a stock 3.8 with subs. when he heard that he had a look of disappointment on his face. I said 3.8 I presume he said no it is a 4.6 auto. then we walk into school and went are separate ways

4.6 T-birds are slow stock, my Mark VIII is on the same platform but about 1.5 seconds faster stock.

I'm a former owner also, and I believe that they run high 15's to low 16's stock. So yeah they are pretty slow, but they make good lowriders.

I'd say they might be a tad bit quicker if Ford would have offered them with a manual. Ford automatics take up a lot of hp and shift really sloppy.

Yeah, my cousin has one. I don't tell him, but it's pretty slow, my daily driver would walk it.

T-birds also have really bad traction problems, the worst I've ever driven. If Ford had fixed that then maybe the 1/4 times would be better. I mean, not a lot better, but every little bit helps.

Re: wow 4.6 cougars are slow

it was from a role so traction wasn't an issue

I don't think the 4.6L in the TBird put out enough power for traction to even be an issue. I owned one and had a few mod's , I thought i was gonna go fast when i put in 3.73's - WRONG. It would have taken around $5,000 dollars to supercharge the car in order to get it in the 13's. Then I drove and bought the LT1 Camaro!!!! I figure I'm better off supercharging a 13 second car to begin with!
