Today while talking to some friends at a house, another guy from town arrives in a brand new GTO, his dad had bout it for him. We got to look at it and he revved if up which sounded preaty good for a stock exhaust. He asked me if i wanted to race him since im getting my car 2morrow, and i said sure. So know im wondering if im goiing to be able to hang with this guy. His car is completely stock, 1200 miles one it.

Is the GTO stick or auto? I here those things run mid to high 13's so I think you will get beat but not too bad. But if he is a really good driver he might be able to make that thing run some good times.

I think the GTo would beat you w/ either tranny, especially w/ the 6spd...they do sound good stock

 

Hunks of Junk... u get beat by the stick, Win against an auto. I raced a 6-speed one with long tubes and ORY pipe, and beat it by 4 cars from 0-100. Very dissapointing car

 

Yes, and you are running an LS! with some good mods. !3.1 is a lot better then a 94 lt1 with the mods in his sig are capable of.

 

Well the race was delayed one more day because my car wasnt ready. The GTO is a automatic. He raced a 300zx today (A4) with exhaust and intake. And they said it was preaty much even but they had to shut of at about 100mph which the GTO was starting to pull a little, about 1/2 a car. And with my old engine i was able to put more than a car on the 300zx, but i dunno how the impys cam will perform, it suppouse to make power faster but drops of sooner.

 

what you getting done to your car?

 

I blew my engine and put in a LT1 from and impala. Only differenceis lower milage, a little heavier heads but flow more, which should benefit from larger TB, and the different cam which makes more torque but drops off sooner. and i gutted the cat and putin a straight pipe in it.

 

I beleive it will perform better than my old enigne which had alot of miles on it, 175k to be exact, and it still pulled preaty darn hard, even beat other lt1s. They also changed all the gaskets and water pump, and opti.

 

Why did GM rate the Impala at 260 horses if it has better flowing heads? The Impy must have a real crappy cam, stock. Why not port the heads and put a big cam in there? How much hp do you think the motor will put out?

 

Ive talk to alot of people who are know quite a bit on the impy engine. The reason their rated at 260 is because of more restrictive exhaust and intake. But still manage to put up bigger torque numbers. I kept my original trans am intake manifold with the 52mm Tb, and just added the CAI. And with the gutted cat and flowmaster it should help out more.

I really dont know what to expect from it, hopefully i wont be dissapointed, but i still need a tune to compensate for the mods and the diffeerent heads and cam.

 

I would port the sh*t out of those head, put a big cam in there and do long tubes. Go for it when you have the motor apart.

 

I think he has a chance. A guy i know went to "pontiac day" or whatever it was at Norwalk and he said he saw a couple GTO's getting in the 15's
