Who'd win? (had to ask again)

Hey all,

I posted this question a little while ago, but didn't get many responses. How would I do against an automatic 1990 300ZX Twin Turbo? All he has is cat back. I read somewhere that autos only had 280hp, whereas the manuals had 300hp. Is this true? Has anyone raced one lately? I am planning on installing long tubes and true duals before we race again. Let me know what you think. Thanks.

I've seen anywhere from 13.6-14.4 posted for stock 300zx's, but these are all 5spd numbers.

I bet having an auto in that 300zx absolutely kills it. Although if he can drive it like he stole it, I'd say it would be close. Maybe you'll eek out a win if you get the long tubes and true duals. I'm not real sure though. I do know if he had a boost controller and was running more boost than stock, he would absolutely smoke you. Go to 300zxclub.com and ask them over there.

It is quite rare for a 300zx to pull 13's in stock trim, and will run quite well against LT1's and will be a drivers race. The automatics were marketed to be just as aggressive as the manual could be, and were said not to loose that much power over the manual. I would have to say race from a stop, and hope he doesnt fly by . Those cars love topend, then again, most turbo cars do.

Automatic in a turbo car is a good thing. Think Grand National ! They don't lose boost through the shift, and they can build boost at the line. That being sade i'm not sure what they run stock, i don't think i've ever seen a completely stock one.

1990 is the first year for the VG30DETT motor, the Z32.. the cool looking ones. It really will be an extremely close race!
