OK theres a guy here w/ a 2003 GT convertible auto that says he could beat me, he says he has somethings done to it and has 285 (just like mine).... Who do u think would win, him or me?

 

285.... what? Hp??? GT's are Dogs, convertables are worse. I beat quite a few decently modded ones by a couple lengths when I was stock, I don't see any reason why you shouldn't take him out...

yeah all GTs are dogs, they are only as fast as an LT1.

it is a convert + auto so yeah, that one SHOULD be a dog though . if for some reason he has 285 hp like he says (actually modded it) it should be a good race with maybe a nose to the GT.

 

Gt will lose with the weight of the convertible package.
Even if he has 285 hp the weight and not even mentioning the fact he has an auto.

He would be lucky to run 14.0s with his hp/weight ratio and tranny woes. Now if he has a large stall in the A4 you might be in for a suprise.

 

My buddy ran a 14.0 in a bone stock (except for removal of the silencer) 2000 auto vert. GT. It was a rental car! What mods, trans, and top does the '96 LT1 in question have?

Despite the few (assuming he's telling the truth) mods he claims to have to put him at "285", auto GTs run considerably slower than their M5 versions and the vert factor doesn't help either.
Go get 'em...

 

What are your mods, and what are his mods. Does he actually have mods, or is he just pulling random hp figures out of his a$$.

I take it you are stock?

If you are stock why not go get a cutout and a CAI, that should give you plenty of breathing room.

 

Not with the average driver in the 1/4 mile. The autos are much easier to launch. The sticks will win with excellent drivers in the 1/4 or from a roll with a decent driver, though.

MMFF got a 13.70 at 101 out of a stock 5-speed GT. They got a 14.09 at 96.6 out of a heavy auto GT that weighed about 200 lbs. more than the stick (not much of this was additional auto trans weight). They are regarded as some of the best stick drivers out there.

 

And your average 5-speed GT is going to e.t. about the same, with an average driver.

 

My mods are nothing really, Flowmaster and a K&N (came w/ the car when i bought it). Im not sure what his mods are, but he hangs out w/ the girl im dating and he told her that hes getting a chip for his car that will boost it up to 315... I think what hes doing is taking w/e number they say you CAN get out of a certain mod and saying hes got it... It would be like me saying that b/c i have a flowmaster i gained 10 HP and w/ a K&N i gained 15HP. Not going to happen.. I'm not too worried about it, I dont think he has the ***** to race me

I sure do know what you mean. I bought my car with my own cash, paid for everything that has ever went on it, and its still in my parents name. They use to bitch and moan about anythign i woudl do on the car, even when i would spend time out there detailing the engine bay they woudl think i am doing some "secret evil work" to it or something.

The cutout could be secret, just have it capped when near home. Do you have the FIPK, or just the filter for the K&N. Also is the flowmaster just like an 80 series muffler or the actual catback? You should win, go race him.

If you race from a dig i have found that with a good launch you will pull a new GT out of the hole, its probably the low end LT1 grunt. The GT will stay pretty close till about 75, then for some reason they start to die. I dont know why this is, but that occured in my races with 5 or so newer GT's.

 

I just have a filter and I believe it is the 80 series, and i think its catback (It looks like i have 3" pipe from headers back) , I found some website that has electronic cutouts for Borla... I want that, but Id have to get a Borla exhaust. Although I dont see why it wouldnt work on any exhaust?

 

A chip would likely only give him 5-10 rwhp. Sounds like a wanna be. Go race him. You will probably win.
