Weird race between LT1 and a LS1.

So i just washed my car and took it out to air dry on some back country roads. After a few miles i head back into town and see a nice black LS1 camaro faceing me across the intersection turning left and im turning right headed home. As i approach him i see a SLP badge on his drivers side rear. So the next light happens to turn red so i pull up and look over at him and he looks over at me and revs his engine. He had aftermarket exhaust and rims as far as i could tell. Sounded like magnaflow. Anyway i powerbrake my car to about 1000 rpms and when the light turns green we take off. I instantly pull about 1 1/2 to 2 cars on him and im thinking he is going to inch up on me any time now. I look down at the speedo and im already doing 100 mph so i slow domn. He never caught up and was about 2-3 cars behind me at 100 mph. The next light turns red so im ready for a rematch but he turns left back into town. When he pulled up to the light i look over and I see him with his jaw dropped. I was very suprised that he didnt rape me. This race make me want to get to the track to see what i run even more than ever.

well not to be a jerk or nothin but either he had traction problems or he has 2.73 gears in the Ls1 but nun the less good kill and i am sure you just made him call SLP for more parts.....

Yes its not the outcome i expected either. I was very shocked. It didnt look like he was all over the road in my rear view mirror. But i would have thought as soon as he got traction he would have caught up in the upper mph.

nice win!

my experience is that i can take out poorly driven stock ones from a dig.. but during the last 1/8, they come on strong! my friend has the same mods that I have on my LT1 (intake, exhaust, mac mids and 4.10's compared to my stock 3.42's) and he runs 113 mph compared to my piddling 104.5!

piddling 104.5? i wish my bird could trap that. most of the srt-4 here run around 103 (atleast the ones at the track) and i have only raced one of em. by the way how is that ls1 driveshaft holding up, does it have a different feel cuz i was wanting to put one one my car. oh and good kill.

Re: Weird race between LT1 and a LS1.

ls1 driveshaft eliminated the vibration i had one the highway. if you dont plan on going really high hp or launch on slicks, its a decent enough mod if you can find one for cheap.

i wish i could launch to make use of the mph. (2.2 best on street tires). im expecting a little bit more mph next year when i try the spray for the first time hehehehe. cant wait.

sorry for hijacking the original posters thread. once again.. .way to go on the win!!!

W/ Lts (not sure if you have the shorties or the longs) you would be able to hold him off if he was fairly stock...Maybe you reacted quicker and he had 273's

Nice to see that someone with very similar mods is posting similar times as me. Let's you know that it's running like it should. By the way, I'm at 13.5@104.8 2.1 60' 80 degrees, 60% humidity

My mods:
Mac mids, ory, hooker catback, K&N CAI, 1.6 RR's, Bilstein HD's, ST 35 mm front bar, 1LE 21mm rear bar, Z06 Corvette brakes up front, 17x9 SS rims with 275/45/17 tires, fully loaded, no weight reduction.

LT's would be "long tubes" ... no question about that .

Were you able to tell whether he was driving a manual or not? Problem is, "average" drivers can't drive manuals worth a crap ... especially on the street where you're not in full "race mode"! Even at the track though, I've seen some poor times out of M6's. However, I've seen (and even run myself) some bad times at the track with my car, A4, 2.73's. It doesn't take much to get off to a bad start, and usually a bad start is all it takes to lose a race.

Dan,
Ive seen your mod list before and I remember complimenting you on your choice of mods - we have alot of the same goodies. I think the difference is, you have the "driver mod", which explains the 3 tenths you have on me despite similar traps.

Mike.

Re: Weird race between LT1 and a LS1.

Like Antz said, i can very easily see a few exhaust LT1 hold off a stockish LS1...done it myself acutally. But God Damn!! your friend trappin 113mph with the same mods as you is insane! That is one fast ****er....def. good for mid 12's
