Video: Viper GTS vs Lightning

Video of a 2nd Gen Lightning vs GTS Viper. I read it was done on closed private roads so the only danger was hitting a Buffalo or Deer etc.

The Lightning doesnt do too bad and holds its own for the vipers 1st 3 gears.

Is it just me, or do the majority of the viper owners have no idea how to drive?

I would bet that most people that spend that kinda money on a car like the Viper don't take it to the dragstrip every 3 days and flog the **** out of it. Don't you think that would be quite ignorant?

IMO, anyone that can run 13.4 - under has a great chance on the street against a Viper owner or any other high dollar car for that matter. Those guys just don't run the **** out of their cars like magazines do.

The guy in the video goes to the track quit a bit. By the way, The Lightning runs mid 12's on the street program that it was running when it ran the viper. The viper runs high 11's low 12's.

Um, listen to how long it takes him to shift, its pathetic. The launch was nothing to brag about either.

Just because he doesnt abuse his car on the streets does not mean he doesnt know how to drive. He does not slam through the gears you are right but his launch was a very good one for the streets. When you dont spin hard or Bog you had a good launch in a Viper.

Why baby your car if you are racing someone? It makes no sense, he woulda reeled in the Lightning alot faster if he shifted like he should have.

It's more like 1/2 second, so figure the shifts are .3 off, 4 shifts in teh 1/4 and thats 1.2 seconds that you are off the gas that you could be on the gas. It adds up real quick.

yeah, he clearly bogged.... but I guess that's better than lighting up a couple $400 tires like a bonfire---- and/or spinning off the road.

Maybe, but it seems to me that they had planned that race. I think it was just a crappy launch.

Would you launch your car as hard as possible just to beat a slow honda or something? I think the guy in the viper took off easy because he knew he would win. NOTHING wrong with that. There's also the possibility that the car is not even his. I once borrowed my brother in law's supercharged saleen mustang and i drove all day without power-shifting or breaking traction. Once he reassured me the next day at the drag strip that he did not care because it was a company car i went ahead and broke it into a 50 foot powerslide HAHA. But its possible the guy did not wanna take his dad's car home with slivers of rubber stuck on the rear fenders.

The car is his. The viper runs low 12's to high 11's the Lighting runs mid 12's on the street tune that it was running when they raced.
