Typhoon???

Went to the local street races the other night....huge turn out. There was this 92-93?? Typhoon there spanking everyone??? Beating up on the 5.0 Mustangs a Talon then he raced a newer Mustang GT 97 or so and beat it. Everyone was gathered around looking at it and the kid that owned it made a comment about how fast this thing is etc, etc.... I kinda smirked and he saw me do it. So he started running his mouth and I decided to run him in the Camaro. 1st gear was dead even..... I was amazed....once I hit 2nd it was like hurricane Ivan....HISTORY. Gotta give him credit .... it did run hard!!! I didn't know these even exsisted let alone were fast.....live and learn. By the way I got him by 3-4 car lenghts.

Re: Typhoon???

I was looking at buyin a typhoon a while back untill i test drove one with a bigger turbo, interals, catback, shift kit and TC , I wasnt impressed at all, they are real heavy. If your gonna go that route Id go with the syclone the s10 pickup version of the typhoon

Re: Typhoon???

I kind of suprised you were even with him in 1st. A friend of mine has one with an upgraded turbo and no other mods and pulls a 1.5 60ft easy. Those things are bad a$$ in the 1/8 but fall off in the 1/4 if they are stock. That awd is a huge advantage. Stock he pulled a 13.9 @ 92mph which wasn't bad for 1992.

Re: Typhoon???

I've always wanted one for a "winter beater" Imagine getting to drive the Z or the Typhoon around all summer and having that bad boy to drive around all winter. It'd be a fun combo of vehicles that's for sure. I used to have a 92' Sonoma GT that is basically a Syclone but without the AWD and the turbo, that was a fast truck by itself. Looked identical though, I often got confused for the faster truck unfortunately. BTW a Syclone is the AWD turbo 4.3L truck and the Typhone is the AWD turbo 4.3L blazer. I'd love to have either, but the room of the suv just seems more appealing, even with the added weight.

Thumbs down Re: Typhoon???

So I guess you are pulling 1.7 60 foot times? Did you convert your Z to AWD?

Even a bone stock Ty can pull a 1.7 60 foot, so there is absolutely no way you stayed with him through 1st. Your story sounds a little suspicious.

I can believe you passed him in about 3rd, because they do fall off a lot after the 1/8th, but even if this guy is stock, pulling a 13.9-14.0 1/4, he would dust you off the line. I have to believe the kid new how to launch it, since you gave him such praise for beating all these other rides.

I've seen 12.5 ZO6's that dont come close to 1.7 60's.

Hmmmmmmmmmm.

Re: Typhoon???

Nice kill. I see no problem with your story considering you are running nittos and a nice cam package. Javier97Z28 runs 1.6 60's with a similar setup, the same cam, and Nittos.

Psmvchaser, this only thing I see suspicious is you post count, give the guy props and be on your way. Maybe you dont think 1.7 60's are possible but it is possible with the right setup and with this gentleman's setup.

Thats not even dipping into the possibility that the other guy didnt have a very good launch or hesitated or anything, which another thing to consider.

Re: Typhoon???

those trucks are vicious off the line if driven correctly.
I saw a list of track times for those trucks and the quickest ones were in the 10s using the AWD 4.3 turbo setup (not stock though)

Good kill!

EXACTLY! That is why there is no way this story adds up. They are both GM anyway, so get off the Camaro pedestal and come down to reality.

Re: Typhoon???

I had a full drivetrain from a Typhoon in my Bravada. We went out one night and I raced an 00 Ram Air. It had a 6 speed, lid, loudmouth, freemods. Off the line, I put between 4 and 6 cars on him. However, he pulled around me right before the end and put about 2 1/2 cars on me. Then, I raced a buddies 97 Ram Air TA. He had a 100 shot, suspension, 4.10's, auto with 3500 stall, DR's. We took off and were dead even; I about crapped. He then went on to putting about 2 cars on me then his trans messed up so I started to gain on him again. He still won anyway. Then, I called out a buddy in his Bullitt and he said no thanks. At the track, I raced a Honda S2000, a Bullitt, a new body style Eclipse, and an LS1 F body with a bad driver and beat all of them. The 2 V8 cars were pulling me hard after 90.

My 93 Typhoon was WAY quicker than the Bravada as I could actually get a good boost launch. With no boost launch and a bad fuel pressure regulator on the Bravada, I ran 14.2's. The Typhoon bone stock ran a 13.4.

Fun times!

13.4 in a stock typhoon? That sounds like the fastest stock typhoon i ever heard of. You must really know how to launch that thing. And 14.2 in a bravada is unheard of. If you're running 14.2 and your buddy only pulled 2 1/2 cars at the end on you in his ws6 with exhaust and mods, he needs to learn how to drive.

Re: Typhoon???

Nope....didn't miss that part. It's just pretty wild how that turned his bravada into a ws6 with mod and t/a with 100 shot near kill. By the sound of it he must have had both cars in the 8th with a 190hp bravada with the full drive train from a typhoon. I was saying how wild it sounded, not bashing him.
