Took down a Lancer Evo...
Been a looong time since I posted here! My Eclipse had sat lifeless for several years until recently. Put it back together (it did not have the problem I think it had, and I feel pretty dumb in hindsight) about a month ago.
Some background on my car since the web hosting croaked...1994 Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX. Big 16g turbo, 17-18 lbs of boost, Air/Fuel computer, gutted MAS, exhaust, intake, 2900 lb clutch, 660 injectors, other stuff not really worth mentioning.
On previous setup (stock turbo, stock injectors, no fuel control, etc), my best run was a 13.28 @ 102. On current setup, the only track I got to run it at was an 1/8th-mile track (Union Hill in Tennessee) for a best of 8.215 @ 83.14. According to times.dsm.org (a list of best track times for cars of my platform), that would equate to about mid-high 12's at 106-107 mph.
So I decided to go out hunting today...I live in a suburb of Austin, Texas. Not exactly turbo-friendly weather when it's this dang hot outside. I saw a black car behind me and thought it was just another econo crap-box until I spotted the dipped hood-scoop. I slow down to take another look.
Looked like a brand-spanking new jet-black Lancer Evo...had exhaust on it that I could see, didn't know what else. Asian guy was driving with a slender girl in the passenger seat.
I pull away from him a couple of times...The lights weren't cooperating with us, and he didn't seem too interested in going at first, but kept pacing me and looking over. His girl was smiling excitely. He was smiling but kinda giving the "eeeeeh" look.
But he kept pacing...
I'm not peeved, but I'm confused. We both have the same dang engines in our cars, the same all wheel drive transmission. The stock evo turbo is a bit better than the Big 16g in my car, but they also come with a stock front-mount intercooler -- which I figured would be helping him a LOT on a hot day like today. The girl in his passenger seat might've weighed 110 soaking wet, and I had the massage chair in the back of my car. So I figured it was a pretty equal match, if not giving the advantage to him.
We pull onto the highway...I sit waiting for him in 3rd gear at 60 or so...He's hanging in the other lane a couple cars behind me when I wave him up through my open window (AC is no longer working on my car -- that's lovely in Southwest Texas). Then I see him start pulling up pretty quick. I wait until he's next to me. He's not slowing down, so I lay into it.
By the top of 3rd, I've put about 1.5-2 cars on him. As I shift to fourth, I'm pulling even more as I hear him let off.
I let off and give him the thumbs-up.
Gotta admit I'm proud of my car -- I didn't think it would stand up to a vehicle with equal weapons and 12 less years on it. The Eclipse has always been a slight factory freak for what it is, but I'm interested to see how a front-mount would wake up this car. Hell, it even has the tiny stock IC pipes.

Man, I haven't seen you post in forever! I'm not surprised you won. Even if the cars made the same power, just think how you've got like a decade of experience with your tranny where this guy is probably still working how how to shift the 6spd. More gears + less experience = lost lengths.
Congrats on the kill, and for keeping the GSX on the road. I always wanted a 94 but ended up with four 92's, a 97 Spyder GST, a 91 GVR4, an 89 Mirage turbo, and two Stealth TT's instead
In searching for cars for other people, I've found that 1g prices have started to hold, and some are rising for nice clean examples. Unfortunately they're extremely hard to find in non-ragged or non-riced condition. I never knew Lasers would end up so rare either - there are hardly any turbo models for sale.

Good to see you too, Antzy. Glad you could contribute something worthwhile to the thread, as always.
To the others: Thanks for the words of encouragement. Some odd and stressful events are what led me to hastily put the Eclipse back together (daily driver developed a crack in the engine block). So it feels maybe better than normal to be able to feel it healthy and enjoy accomplishments in it now. Might have to check out some of these tracks in Texas now!
