you would have more fun on a 5 speed, you could get a used '03 for around 20k. parts are really cheap, you can change all the spark plugs in 15min and the best of the best, you won't have swore fingers after the change, really easy to work with
the stock rear end is not as strong as the one found on a regular mustang gt.
a lot of people would tell you to upgrade this if you're planning to run dr's and up. 31 spline axel runs for about $230, brand new ford trak lock diff: $189 to replace the stock one
now you've got a really strong read end for this amount. you can change gears since you're there, a set of 4.10's: $139, get some bfg dr's and you would have tons of fun at the strip/street.
The rearend on the GT is the same as the Mach 1, the only real difference in the cars is that the Mach 1 is a N/A version of the 4v head 4.6 like in the Cobra's versus the 2v head 4.6 in the GT's and Bullett's. That is a better rearend than the 10 bolt but the axles suck ***. If you even slightly mod one of those cars don't even think about running slicks at the track.

yep you're right, is the same rear end, i just wanted to say the one in the gt seems to be stronger, i heard of people running slicks and superchargers on the stock gt rear end, without any problems, i didn't want to test my luck though, so i just replaced everything just in case. is not that expensive anyways for your own piece of mind....

Re: Run in with Mach 1

it had to be an auto stock form cuz to lose to a lt1.... id kill myself. i have 04TR stick mach and ive beaten plenty of LS1 T/A'a and Camaros... so i know a LT1 is an appetizer. its a great car runs strong and very comfortable inside. But then again the cobra is biting me... and with the great deals going on with with the 04 clearence... i might buy it and trade in the mach. my buddy with an 99 T/A thought my car was joke... until i beat him.

What i love most about the Mach is thats its a stealthy killer... not many people know the difference between the GT and Mach... but a full second on the 1/4 is a big difference.

actually i run low 10's when i really try!!!
what i was trying to say is that i know for a fact that a good driver can hit low 13's. Im ok... im not declaring myself the greatest driver in the world. but i do know how to drive my car. and besides that i love it. ive hit 13.1 once... ive never duplicated it... but thats beside the point. i do avg about 85% of the time... 13.3-4 and when i really suck ive hit 13.8...

im not downing T/A.... i love them actually. LS1 is one of my fav motors...

Cool Re: Run in with Mach 1

had a very similar run in tonight in the T/A. I was driving down ambassador caffery parkway (big 4 lane road) and this red mustang starts riding my ***, so I do speed limit for a while. Soon as the traffic lets up whadda ya know, I see the mustang dart in the other lane and gun it. As soon as he does that I floor it, the T/A lurches forward, I crack a big *** smile, and the mustang gets OWNED.... ......when i turn off at the restaraunt I was headed to he passes me in the other lane and I see that it was a 99 or 00 Gt...

Re: Run in with Mach 1

Becareful Lt-1's are not the slouches you make them out to be. I have run with shorty headers, a cai, ignition, air foil, and nitto's and of course the obvious free mods. And in a convertible with only spare tire and jack removed a 13.05 @ 105.89. This was with a 6 speed. with only a 1.94 60 ft. Now before you call b.s. Im not a little teenager running around trying to build my car up. The car I have now built is much faster. So no need for me to run around and brag on something that doesnt exist anymore. Now weather was optimal of course. But it always ran 13.1-13.3 @ same mph. I ran this at a Kyfbody event and may have it on tape somewhere. There are many in this area that know the car and know what was done to it.

anywho for what its worth......Good Kill !!

Re: Run in with Mach 1

I'm getting ready to put some MAC mids on my car. Gets expensive when you do headers, plugs, wires, fuel filter etc... I'm hoping for mid to maybe low 13's next spring with some sticky tires. Then i'll give the Machs and the new GT's a pretty good run for their money!

Re: Run in with Mach 1

my point is that with your LT1... you can give a new GT a run for his money. You might beat him actually. Itd be a driver's between a LT1 and 99-04 GT. Whoever has the more mods would win in my opinion. High end youd still beat a GT... thats why on a roll you raped him!!! GT's are slow... now a Mach is a different story. I dynoed mine stock and it did 289hp and 306tq... pure stock.

You could beat a Mach, just like you could beat any DRIVER!!! Just like when my buddy Rick beat some stupid little kid driving a 03 cobra. Of course youre gonna beat him with LS1 Trans Am, he didn't know how to drive!!! THen a few weeks later after I wore in the Mach about 700 miles... I beat him. And the mach runs stronger with more miles.

Anything could happen on the street, Ive seen the stupidest little cars beat the monster engines. Any given sunday... you know.

I dont trash GM.... believe it or not Im one of the few Hardcore Ford guys who like GM. If you beat him... Awesome kill and keep on ridin'...

Re: Run in with Mach 1

Ive run mine a few times since purchasing it and selling my LS1.
Best so far bone stock is a 13.15 @ 107 with a 1.913 short time on factory tires. A set of stickies and I would have been in the 12s.
I have run a best 1/8th mile of 8.47 @ 83 mph.

If you drive these things to there potential they will fare well against the LS1s or bolt on LT1s. Too many people show up at the track and run awefull times bieng inexperienced drivers and ultimately give the car the bad rep.
