respect from a ricer??

so i'm driving home last night in a 96 v8 grand cherokee, when i pull up next to a guy in a civic, im guessing like a 98 or 99...he was drivingaggressively and was a thorn in my side, so i passed him. he pulls up to me reving his fart can, and took of, so i caught him and he slowly pulled on me. we hit a light and his friend says, laughing, "nice car". i laughed and told him to meet me later and we'd run. so later i pull up in my t/a and this guy and a bunch of his friends just started laughin. i got out of my car and asked him where to race. he looks at his friends and says "i didn't think you'd have somethin like that" so i laughed. for fun, we went out on a straight spot, and like a ricer, he wanted to go from a roll, so i agreed and we went from 35-105. obviously i pulled about 5 cars by 65, and he held with me. i won by 6-7 cars. he pulled up to me and said "I was spraying a 100 shot to hang, but i think im gonna buy one of those tomorrow." I thought it was a funny story, it's rare ricers respect american muscle.

Ricer isn't the car, it's the mentality. I get LT1 guys who rev at me at lights then stomp it sideways in a 20 zone and cut somebody else off.
Are they ricers?

yes. It is completely a state of mind.

Hey redneck01, does that mean he was spraying a 100 shot when he raced you in the Cherokee?

Re: respect from a ricer??

People complain about ricer mentality because of the sheer number of them out there. True, there are many dips**ts out there in mustangs and camaros, but they are alot more fewer and far between. Granted there does exist the mature set of adults that like imports and give respect to faster cars, no matter their make. But there still exists the large droves of baggy assed teeny boppers that think the Fast and the Furious is reality and have no mechanical inclination whatsoever. Just like the stang and LT-1 j-offs, these a** bags give everyone else that drives a similar car a bad name. It is refreshing when people can have an honest run and respect the other guy, win or loose. If I raced every dumb kid I encounter on the highway, I would be in serious need of a good attourney. I talked to a guy the other day out at the track with a SRT-4, which I dont really care for, but he was cool and listed his mods. After shooting the S**T with this dude, I have a new found respect for what he is doing with his car.

Re: respect from a ricer??

Just about the only guy around where I live that acts like a "ricer" (well atleast to me) is this one guy in a 98-02 V6 camaro. I've only seen him twice around here and both times it was in heavy traffic, but he'd still rev the crap out of his car then floor it so the front end would go up a little bit and then slam on the brakes. He has a 4" cowl hood on it and baby blue vent and other dash trim which I guess makes him think it's fast. The first time I saw him I just looked right at him and laughed right at him and his gf. The second time I just ignored him whlie sipping on my pepsi right before I headed out to go from south chicago to the Woodward Dream Cruise in detroit (which kicked *** ).

Re: respect from a ricer??

Question:

I often like to push my V6 to the limit. And I sometimes race cars obviously faster than mine, mostly for kicks and just to say I raced this or that, like that '65 msutang fastback. I accelerate hard very often (because I just love it) and speed only sometimes. I don't rev my engine though, not even when I'm about to race, which has only been 3 times and I've never initiated it. Am I a Camaro ricer, or do I have a ricer mentality ?

Re: respect from a ricer??

he was spraying when i was in the t/a...this guy appeared to be a ricer...$1 million stereo and subs, "laborghini door" decals, and the biggest muffler in the history of cars. now i agree that the ricer is the mentality, but in my definition, the car was a rice burner...I'm 100% American, and it takes a lot for me to see foreign cars as anything less than a rice burner. They go against my religion: V8's, big cams, a chattering valvetrain, and enough power to never tracion.

Re: respect from a ricer??

Have to be careful, just because it started out as a econmy Honda civic doesn't mean it's slow, there's allot of tricks to get some crazy secret power out of them. I've seen civics beat things you wouldn't expect them too. Some of those 20 some thing kids know allot about the new technology and make a tough car. My friend was telling me about his Brother that got into racing for money, bought a honda civic and started playing with it, soon enough he was making his way through the ranks beating things like corvettes (or claimed by my friend) And won $10,000 when it was all said and done, with a civic. And he wasn't all about forgien cars, in fact his first car was an old mustang boss.

But I'd say it's true allot of import drivers get a little cocky. Probably not very many people realize the cars in fast and the furious weren't the ultimate speed machines. As shown in the sequal the imports were not a match for the Camaro and Challenger, a whole other league.
A kid a few houses down just bought a new Civic, and was going on about how it was the new fast four banger, idiot... Still trying to catch him out to shut him down...

Sorry for getting off topic, it's nice when anyone shows respect for another car, usually they get to involved in their own, Muscle car guys should also respect how someone else goes about getting a budget fun car... All cars are made of metal, plastic, nuts and bolts, no matter what country it's from.
